This review is from an Indian. Saw the movie and its really good. Well directed, acted. Good music. You should watch this movie. Child actors are the main heroes becasue of whom it is a hit. The movie shows only the dark side of India. But India is well ahead and is catching up with the world. To understand the movie, you should know some facts. A R Rehman has composed the music. He is one of the best nusicians. Amitabh Bachan is the Clint Eastgwood of India. Sachin Tendulkar is India's greatest cricketer and Indians are mad about cricket (somewhat similar to baseall). Bollywood is India's answer to Hollywood. Hindu and Muslims are the two major religions of India.

This is a mediocre movie at its best. It is definitely driven more by a sadistic impulse than to portray reality in India..because it is not an accurate portrayal. The heartiness is superficial and the directors seem to have gone a bit too far to sensationalize with unnecessarily crude stuff. The slum-dwellers are a complete minority there but they still live relatively colorful, happy lives than is shown here.

Slumdog Millionaire is one of the best movies I have seen in years, and I have seen a lot of movies. While brutal in many respects, it carried the thread of love and its power in spite of enormous odds. In other words, the movie was uplifting. We left the theater marveling at the resiliency of the human spirit. I am spreading the word about this wonderful movie. I just wish that Hollywood would get the message and produce more movies that are high quality and that provide an intelligent story.

I have only walked out of two movies in my life and this was one of them. Stayed to almost the end and that was too long. If you are looking for a movie that will make you feel disgusted then you should see Slumdog Millionaire. I have to wonder why the critics reviewing this movie just didn't state the facts. What a cultural experience! This movie deserves the awards it's getting because, unfortunately, it is realistic in terms of the main story. Its a great movie but some parts were just too crude. Violence against children, although horrifying, was depicted in the right manner, as it happens in some parts of the world. Story unfolding style was just impeccable. I mean how the answers in the "Millionaire" show relate to the past of the main protagonist, is just captivating and well justified. Sometimes, its truly the DESTINY that takes you places. All characters were developed in a masterly way. Overall, a great movie and truly deserving for the Golden Globes.

I am an Indian, though this movie depicts India evil,...I have heard similar stories happening, (this is not usual India you could see and probably life would be there). Otherwise, movie was taken taken superbly with perfect screenplay. There are plenty of Indian Movies better than this (not the usual masala Hindi Movies),...I hope this movie would open gates for better Indian movies to receive awards in future. A.R.Rahman's score was just average for his standard. His other songs are much better than this.

My Pastor and I always talk about movies to see. We exchange our thoughts and ideas about the films we see. The latest we discussed was Slumdog Millionaire. As I watched the film, I was amazed at the poverty these children had to grow up in, and to realize that this type of poverty is very real. The film also gave a great depiction on how children learn. As a lifelong educator, I have learned that children learn and retain information in many diffierent ways. This film validates that theory. The actng was so good that it made me think I was watching a documentary instead of a fiction film. I also was reminded that ego and jealousy are world wide emotions where people feel that only the rich are wise and educated.

This, movie goes beyond words, and is one of the best movies I have seen in the last 5 years. When I entered the theater I did not know what to fully expect. My mother had recommended this movie to me. So i grabbed my friend and made him see it with me. We assumed that this movie would be similar to the films that are being cranked out now, lack-luster and complete wastes of time. Slumdog Millionaire opened my eyes to the world that expands much past here. It brought forth the realization that in India you were what you were born into. I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Despite its few violent and graphic scenes, the story is so worth experiencing. I highly recommend this film to anyone willing to see it.

With such a high approval rating I had to see it. But this movie wasn't as good as I thought it would be. It was not a comedy at all, as stated by the genre located to your left. I thought this moview was great. Really showed what life is like for the truly poor people in this world. As for those that say there was too much violence, I don't agree. Yes, there was some violence, but it also showed you what really occurs in different parts of the world.
Great story/movie that kept your attention for the full two hours!

The movie it self is just absolutely amazing...filled with drama, suspense and thrill! Many may think this movie is making India look bad, and is just an example of violence towards children. The truth is this movie explains the reality that many of us do not know. This movie simply regarding one of the children who climbs his way up unexpectedly.
This movie just is very awesome... defines the reality and opens the truth.

I've read reviews that dismiss this movie because of the violence (necessary to the plot and to describe the protagonist's struggles). Other reviews are condescending because of its happy ending (Financial Times dismissed it out of hand). All of these are off the mark. This movie combines the struggles of any underdog movie ("Rocky" etc.) with a great plot. It's a great movie--and after all, sometimes the golden globe awards get it right! Congratulations to Slumdog.

I don't understand why so many people liked this movie. It was disturbingly violent, and toward children yet. Everyone but Jamal were murdering thugs. It made India look like a dark, evil place run by mafia types. The only redeeming part of the storyline was that it had somewhat of a happy ending. But it's likely that 2 people having been through what Jamal & Lakita went through could never live happily ever after. Their entire lives would be filled with Post tramatic stress. Such a dark, negative path to get a simple-minded message across.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
