this epic love story mixed up in a magical realism narrative will win the academy award. it is far to grand a film and expertly implement by a film maker that has a now a long list of impressive films on his CV. from masking, rotoscoping and tracking work in the special effects dept to the pitt and blanchett's performances in front of the camera, this film is truly breathtaking: it is the thinking man's Forrest Gump.
Though despite these achievements, the film left me feeling a little cold, Fincher is an unconvincing 'man manager' as we say in football. I am not sure he can direct actors and as a result he create lovely moments between characters that lack heart and depth of emotion: essential elements for a love story one would think.
slumdog trades in clichés and stereo types of india that many may find off putting but at it's heart is a first rate love story measuring up to the likes of Casablanca.
mr boyle is well on his way to cementing himself as one of the most stylish and provocative directors in working in modern cinema. and yes i can forgive him for the second half of the beach.
