If you don't like graphic violence you may have to cover your eyes for several scenes but the movie is a wonderful must see movie. I thought it was fun and exciting, impossible but joyous nonetheless. There were lots of lessons about the human spirit. Go see it! NOT for children. Disturbing images.

I feel truly enriched by having seen Slumdog. That sounds like it's more about me than the movie, but it would be difficult for anyone to walk out of the theater after seeing this movie and fail to be uplifted by the combination of plot, acting, cinematography, music, and editing. I typically look down upon movies like City of Joy which try and capitalize on the desperation & depravity of India's poor for western audiences.
Slumdog portays all the gruesomeness of the Dharavi slums in the most honest way that I have ever seen. It's a remarkably well made movie based on a truly heart warming story of love, relationships and adolescence. Simply superb!

The cinematography and the music of Slumdog is reason enough to see it. The camera work is fast paced and covers all manner of angles. As much as I hate movies told in flashback form (and this one is told with three), I found it tolerable. The plot breaks down and becomes increasingly inane as the movie plods along to end in boy finally gets girl.

Beautifully acted, lovely to look at, but the plot is a bit syrupy and soggy. Dev Patel is awfully fun to watch, as are the cast of Bollywood stars, but the story itself is as rickety and corrupt as the Mumbai underworld it portrays, and each plot twist can be heard from miles away.

After reading all of the reviews i was stunned that it is only showing in one conventional cinema & 2 "art" theaters in the Boston area. Every show is sold out & I understand why. The intensity, coupled with the realism of the characters and their story, made this an outstanding film. It's sad that we read about this slum villages not just in Mumbai but in Rio & many other cities around the world but have no sense of what they are really all about. This film does that. Also, the ending after the credits would make a great stand alone video.

Slumdog Millionaire is stunningly beautiful, horrifying and uplifting all at the same time. Visually, it's extremely intense with some of the best art direction and editing I've seen in many years. You feel yourself in the midst of Mumbai -both suffocated and embraced by the characters' endless struggle to survive. This is an amazing movie on many levels. Dramatic, romantic and suspenseful. While the depiction of the slums and the adversity there could have overwhelmed the movie, it doesn't. It instead drives the characters, the plot and the action to the finale. The movie could have simply been depressing given the subject matter, but ends up being uplifting. IN A TIME WHEN "HOPE" IS DISAPPEARING FROM OUR VOCABULARY THIS MOVIE PUTS IT RIGHT BACK IN AND SHOWS US HOW AGAINST ALL ODDS WE CAN STILL DARE TO HOPE AND LET LOVE BE THE DRIVING FORCE IN OUR LIVES. IT IS SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES I HAVE SEEN.
