I laughed and cried. "Liz Lemon" wasn't Liz anymore. Tina Fey and Paul Rudd likeable characters you wanted to succeed. Easy on the heart and mind. Light entertainment with a little spice, fun and meaning.
This movie delivered what we hoped for; entertainment, interest and timely subject well done. This is a well cast movie that takes us into the heart of poor farm communities with some brilliance. It pulled us in and held us till the end. I am afraid if I say anything about the story line I would give it away. It was a bit like watching a movie of swimmers and you can see the sharks and they really can't. You will be surprised. Don't read anything about this movie, Just go see it. Perfect performances by Frances McDormand, Matt Damon, John Kazinsky especially. Loved it.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors
Yes, I recommend this movie.

New style for Tolstoy's story; An Intellect's Movie?
You need to know that this is not War and Peace or Pride and Prejudice. The director and collaborators chose to make this movie a play sometimes on a stage, sometimes in the wings, sometimes in real rooms. It will fly by and the story is still gripping and told completely. Having chomped through the 976 page novel myself, I appreciated the drama and unique style of the movie and keeping me fully awake and interested.. Some of the casting was chosen to help you feel the kind of person each one was and may not feel like you want it to feel but it will leave you thinking. I cannot imagine that there will not be Academy and Golden Globe awards for this movie. I thought it was thorougly entertaining. It may be too complex for people who are looking for a chick flick.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I like Johnny Depp. The action was good, the plot interesting enough and I found it a great afternoon escape which was when I chose to see it. Very entertaining, quick action, twists and turns, surprise ending. The cinematography of Venice was quite beautiful. All in it was Cool.
This movie stays with you. The characters and the situation are meaningful (if Mr. Potato Head can be meaningful), and touching. We loved it. Both senior citizens who played with a slinky toy, Mr. Potato Head, Barbies. It was a time when toys and dolls were something that stayed until one day, we grew up. BUT, they still meant and mean something to us. We can still remember what we called our dolls and the clothing that they wore. We were cute little girls. I think this story will touch everybody from 5 to 500. (Well, maybe not that old...) I hate the way the "Action links" pops up when you try to order tickets, or write a review and your cursor gets near that Toy Story link. I wouldn't get any one of them just because of that pop up by the way. Movie tickets complaint, not the movie.
Though I did not think it for little children at all, I thought it was grand entertainment for adults, well cast and well done. I did love Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter but of course Alice was the real star and hero to the end. I'm not crazy about 3D but I'm beginning to just let go and accept the glasses. I'd consider seeing it a 2nd time. Go enjoy it.
I am glad that I went to see it so I know what it was. I found it entertaining but rather simple and predictable. When I went home Matrix Revolution was on and I couldn't help but think that The Matrix was a far better movie and Avatar rang of the same idea; body connected to other body that can do amazing things. My 34 year old son and his wife liked Avatar enough to go back to see it twice. It had some thought provoking aspects and the concept of the other world was quite beautiful to behold. not much new though really.
I loved the characters (especially Alec Baldwin, Meryl Streep and Steve Martin) and the plot. Very satisfying and funny. Meryl and Alec were so good together. Go!!
Up in the Air" was well worth seeing. Surprising twists and turns in the story and it was quite thought provoking. I think I shed more tears then I laughed. While a bit uneven, I still found it engrossing and well worth some afternoon time.
This was an impossibly romanticized portrayal of 2 marriages but a delightful light comedy. I've already borrowed the first volume of Julia's book from one of my friends. I was thoroughly entertained. I wasn't crazy about the jumping back and forth between blogger and Julia. Another problem was that I hadn't eaten dinner and didn't have time to buy a snack. With all that Yumming and cooking in the movie I scoodled home and made myself something cooked in butter of course! I am looking forward to trying her cookbook now though.
