Fabulous, engaging coming of age story portraying awkward teen years that anyone can relate to, but especially children of divorce. Fabulously acted, and a fresh departure from Steve Carrell from his normal roles. The main kid was fabulous in showing his maturity from summer's beginning to end. Go see it!
I was surprised this movie had very few funny moments, was depressing, and had almost all shallow, self-absorbed and unappealing characters. The Seth Rogen character was mildly appealing. He was the only one. I was disappointed.
The only great things about this movie are the exciting visual creation of Rowling's amazing world, and watching the kid actors age along with the script characters. So, visually appealing and good interplay of main Hogwart student characters. I felt sorry for moviegoers who hadn't read the books. Not much exciting action in this movie, but don't regret going.
This is worth watching for the amazing performance of Mickey Rourke. It seemed like the movie was a metaphor for his life. He truly emodied this role of a washed-up wrestler who knows no other life and can't give it up. I only gave it four stars because it was so difficult to watch and disturbing. I reserve 5 stars for things that uplift.
I couldn't decide what genre to label this film after seeing it. It had action, it had suspense, it had a love story, it had amazing pictures of India. It was so beautifully put together it was like a good novel, which I never think of movies. It had absorbing characters. It showed the beauty of the human spirit.
