Whoever assembled the trailer for this movie needs a raise in pay. Based on previews, I thought this was going to be a smart, semi-sexy flick. Wow; was I ever wrong!! This movie was VERY confusing; and I'm not stupid or easily confused. The acting could not carry the lousy script or the back and forth of the time changes. The plot was utterly completely unbelievable. I know; we don't go to movies for real-life. However, I feel movies are much more enjoyable when you think; "yea, that could happen." Anybody else think Giamatti was awful?? Skip this one.
I think it's a true indication of how low our society has sunk when people think this is a great movie. Or "one of the best ever". Are we so de-sensitized to violence that we think this is entertainment??
If this piece of garbage were only violent and brutal it might have been watchable. However, the acting was nothing short of atrocious, the plot COMPLETELY not believable and the conclusion utterly ridiculous.
I wish I would have listened to the reviews I saw which said; "Do not under any circumstance go to this movie". If I can influence one person out there I will feel OK. Please, please, please...DO NOT go to this piece of junk.
Whoever put the trailer to this movie together deserves an Oscar. The movie itself was incredibly average. Clive is OK; I love Naomi Watts but, she is really bad here. She seemed to be sleepwalking her way through this. Some good scenes but not enough to carry a lousy premise. The timeliness, in terms of corrput banks, is obviously spot on. Wait for the $.99 special at Blockbuster....if they're still in business.
If you gave this movie more than 1 star you are probably in treatment like Anna was at the start of the movie. How could ANYONE think this is remotely worth watching?? This movie would have toget much, much better to be awful. The acting was atrocious, (Browning should have stuck to Lemony Snicket) and the story was truly laughable. I'll admit, I didn't expect the ending however, nothing about it was scary. M. NIght Shymalan (The 6th Sense) should feel VERY ripped off. I know I do for the $7.50 I spent to get in. The carmel corn was good though.
Renee Zellweger is quite possibly, no, make that probably the worst actress of our time. Granted, the story was VERY predictable and lame. However, another actress might have been able to make this movie semi-passable. Maybe it's my bias toward Zellweger but, she is HORRIBLE!!! Do not under any circumstance go to this movie. If you do just remember I told you not to!! If I could have given this zero stars I would have.
Liam Neeson was very good as the father out for revenge. Much that he did was very unlikely but, hey....it's Hollywood people!! It's a movie!!! Get over yourselves, if you want to be entertained go to the movies. If you want reality watch something mindless like American Idol or The Biggest Loser. Go see this movie and enjoy Neeson. If you have kids; you will probably never allow them to travel abroad.
The only reason to see this movie is Meryl Streep. If you want to see one of the best actors of our time in a fantastic role check her out. If you're looking for a really good movie with an intriguing story, skip it. Everything is very forced; from Hoffman's opening "sermon" about doubt to the terrible "storm brewing" during another incredibly contrived scene. I'm not real sure what the rave reviews on here saw but, this movie is terribly overrated....and I love Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The most doubt about this flick is why all the nominations; except Streep's.
I had never heard of Leonard Chess, the founder of Chess Records. Chess Records gave rise to Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry and Etta James; all of whom I had heard of. However, the background which made the story was incredibly compelling. Adrien Brody was very good, Jeffrey Wright was OK as Mud, and Beyonce was, well, Beyonce!! She played Etta James who clearly had issues. Go to the theater, enjoy the soundtrack as it should be enjoyed.
This past weekend I saw TDTESS and Milk. I wrote a review about Milk and how Sean Penn, in my opinion, is one of the best actors of our time. Well, Keanu Reeves is certainly the anithesis of Sean Penn. He is flat out HORRIBLE!! I think he was OK in Speed because Sandra Bullock was so good. Jennifer Connelly can't pull off the same. Additionally, the subject matter was so poorly covered poor Keanu (which must mean "bad actor" in Hawaiian) doesn't stand a chance. Stay home; rent the original.
You hear about life in India and the squalid conditions; Danny Boyle has captured it on film. This is a remarkable story with Oscar-worthy performances. Most definitely deserving of Academy Award nominations. The story is amazing; and wonderfully told.
