I typically look down upon movies like City of Joy which try and capitalize on the desperation & depravity of India's poor for western audiences.
Slumdog portays all the gruesomeness of the Dharavi slums in the most honest way that I have ever seen. It's a remarkably well made movie based on a truly heart warming story of love, relationships and adolescence. Simply superb!
It's a refreshing movie that captures the feelings of 30 somethings like us who had bands when we were back in college.
The screenplay is very well written with subtle and no so subtle connections (chemotherapy - hair loss, sindbad the sailor - job on a cruise ship, etc) and the music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is awesome.
