Fans of the series and non-fans will absolutely love this movie. This is going to be a very hard movie to beat this summer, and I think it is the best movie of 2009 so far. I can't remember the last time I was so excited after seeing a film...I want to see it again!
Great acting...great script...production quality was superb. The Movie has great dynamics, and it's not too long (about 2 hours). Action scenes were also fantastic.
GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Okay, I am an avid Star Trek fan who has seen this movie every opening night. This was a bit different as I know JJ Abrams sometimes goes a little wild and I was worried what he was going to do with the prequal. He made it work... he really did. This takes a twist that opens a door to a whole new Star Trek and I like where it goes. It is not crazy edgy like the New Battlestar Galactica (though I kind of like it to some point... though a little too dark for my taste), but it is fresh and really opens a door that we the fans will support and encourage JJ Abrams to expand. Fantastic and worth a an opening night viewing (this is my personal highest rating)!

Awesome movie.
preface: i grew up on TOS thanks to my dad.
The cast was so very well done. Everyone was the characters we know and love without completely mimicking the original cast. Kirk was definitely the brash, narcissistic, natural leader cowboy that was James T. Kirk, without being Will Shatner. Spock was perfect (and no Sylar showed through). Bones was hilarious. Uhura was kickass. And Captain Pike was really cool, too!
I couldn't be more satisfied!

After the Enterprise Debacle (Thank you, Manny Coto, for trying to rescue Star Trek; I'm sorry you didn't get time to give the franchise all the love you had to offer), I was really nervous about this movie. I didn't dare get my hopes up too high. The more I saw of the previews, the more I feared they were going to cram too much into the film. Then the movie began. As each character I grew up loving was reintroduced to me, I fell in love with them again. I found myself entranced, involved & rediscovering this universe with fresh awe. This is a well-deserved reboot to a much-loved franchise. I adored this movie. I'm already planning to see it again soon, wondering when I can buy the DVD. I'm also eagerly awaiting JJ's next Star Trek project!

Star Trek is back! This movie is thrilling form beginning to end. But it is not just an action flick. The story is solid and blends very well within the already known Trek universe. This is by far the best best Star Trek movie seen since First Contact.
We can only hope this newest version will continue upward wherever this new Star Trek is headed.

In the days when special effects seem to dominate movies, Star Trek invested a lot of time and energy in character development. That is why this movie works so well. These are not parodies of Spock, Kirk, Checkov, Sulu and Urhura - the acting is consistent with what we would assume the original characters were like when they were younger. Bones, however, seems to be an over the top parody - but it still works - very well

A respectful and necessary reboot to the series that will introduce Star Trek to a whole new audience. Some violations of cannon, but nothing too serious, especially with Nimoy's blessing.

Just like most people here, I have to say this movie was awesome. I'm a ST fan, but not that hard core so the story line did not bother me. The action was great and I NEVER thought I would say this but Spock is HOT!!!!

I think they really caught the essence of the Star Trek movies. Karl Urban played a great Dr. McCoy. I think his characterization was spot-on. Zachary Quinto as Spock was amazing. That was a fantastic choice. The movie overall met my expectations. I don't think anyone at all will be disappointed. The updated graphics for things such as beaming and light speed really gave the movie the updated feel. I was glad the characters weren't really updated. I think the actors did a good job of keeping the basic personality traits that made the original characters distinct.

I'm not a Trekkie but I am familiar with the original Star Trek and I don't see how they could have done any better to meet everyone's expectations. The cast was great. I especially enjoyed Dr McCoy. It had just the right blend of silly and serious. I think anyone who even thinks they might like this movie will love this movie. Go and take your friends.

I was never a huge star trek fan, but this movie was such a fun experience! The story was compelling, there were so much great acting talent, and the movie was a perfect mx of drama, action, comedy, and suspense. Not one wasted moment in this movie, and I could have gladly sat through another 2 hours! It was a blast cheering and clapping along with the trekkies in the audience, and i recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fresh look at a classic series.

The plot was weak but this movie was less about story and more about re-establishing 40 year old characters and providing lots of action. The plot was good enough to explain why these characters come together as they do but are different than they were in the original story. If you go looking for a good time, I do not think you will be disappointed.

I saw this movie twice in one night. It was a GREAT movie. I did not know much abotu the Star Trek Franchise but my sister and I enjoyed it with two "trekkies" and WE all loved it.
Take your friends and family to this one.Besides one racey scene ( with characters in their underwear) this would be a great movie for anyone over the age of 8 or 9. :) ENJOY THE MOVIE ~ I know I will see it again !

So true to the original - I absolutely loved this movie and will go back again to see it several times before it leaves the theater. It is alive, but it is a reanimated monster. The Vulcans were not Vulcans, Spock had neither any of Leonard Nemoy's mannerisms nor essence of Spock. They got Kirk's character, mannerisms and storyline right, but unfortunately it was not enough.
It felt like JJ Abrams watched a few random episodes, didn't understand, feel or even liked Star Trek. He took it as an ego centric power trip to make it "better" and in the process didn't bother to keep it Trek. How can you make a movie without liking the story or feeling the characters or understanding the ideas and ideals it represents?
I am shocked at what they have done to the time line too. They negated 40 years of Universe that appealed to so many people, shaped our culture and technology.

This was an excellent addition to the Star Trek lore. For us Trekkies, it is a refreshing re-introduction to the charecters we love. For the newbies, it introduced them to the Trekkie genre. This movie is able to stand on it's own while leaning on the past.

I realize the idea was to reinvent the franchise, but did they have to completely screw with everything! Including the theme music! (I would've used a stronger word here, but figured that would violate some TOS)
I was expecting much better; although, I do have to say that Pine and Quinto were pretty good as Kirk and Spock.

This was one of the best Star Trek movies I have seen in a long, long time. They were ingenious on how they handled the old, familiar characters, but put a new twist on everything. If you are a Trekkie, you may be disappointed on how the story line doesn't flow with what you know of the "old" Star Trek....but they explain it all and leave it wide open for more movies....and I will watch them ALL! They have to keep the same actors, though....what great jobs they all did! I was so thrilled with this movie, because I was prepared to be disappointed. It was great!
