Fantastic movie, lots of reviews touting it's amazing special effects and action packed content however, what I believe made the movie throughly enjoyable for me was the continuity of the characters, indearing and some times down right laughable. The "traits" these characters were so well known for were incorporated with great skill, accurate yet subtle as to not be distracting to the general audience.

Both my husband and I have been long time Star Trek fans since the original series...and I have to say, bringing a new generation on board with this imaginative prequel story was GENIUS! The cast and special effects were great! We will be seeing it again!

I am not a Trekee, but I have followed and enjoyed the original series, TNG, and Voyager. This movie for me was awesome, special effects were off the charts, and the story was excellent. I look forward to seeing sequels. Hopefully they will do one based on Khan.....

JJ Abrams has successfully managed to destroy star trek. If you are a mindless tool you will love this movie, if you are a star wars fan you will love this movie, but if you are a star trek fan you will walk out of this movie with a tear in your eye for something has died in your heart.

I've seen this one twice and it was as exciting the second time as the first. The story is interesting with well defined motivations for the characters' actions. The interaction of the characters is believeable, entertaining, and well acted. For Star Trek fans, there are enough references to the original canon and explanations for the deviations to keep it acceptably accurate. The action is believably choreographed and visually stimulating. The directing was excellent in that the story had a continuous flow and every scene added to the telling of the tale. I hope that there will be a sequel with the same team.

After the failure of the 2002 movie I was thinking that Star Trek had run its course, and so I was a bit skeptical if there was really going to be anything in this film that would be worth watching. After seeing this film twice, I'd say that this movie is exactly what the Star Trek franchise needed to remain alive in the 21st century. One of the first things that caught my attention was the freshness of it all. The younger cast certainly adds a vitality and energy that is not seen in the previous star trek movies. The movie strikes a good balance between throwing in elements familiar to the old fans, as well as adding new elements as well. And the films strikes a good balance between action and storyline. Highly Recommend!

I am not at all a Star Trek junkie, and going into this movie - I had some doubts. I knew it would be a great action movie, but as we all know, action doesn't make a great movie. The actors, plot line, director, producer, and variation make a movie great. Star Trek definitely comprises all the necessary aspects to make this a movie that is worth spending $10 in the theatre to see. It is a rare gem that will leave even the clueless satisfied. J.J. Abrams composition is not just for the hardcore Star Trek guru, and honestly next to the Vulcan hand gesture, I was not familiar with any of the characters, references, or story line. This movie had me from the opening scene and I would gladly see it again!

See this movie if you enjoyed the good writing, humor and ethical quandaries of the original series. All the nods to the series are fun for Trekkies. And the special effects elegantly support the story (rather than overpower it.) Leonard Nimoy rocks!

Solid film. Fans of the 60's tv show will enjoy the set up and story.
I found the screenplay exceptionally engaging but didn't like many of Abrams camera angles and over indulgent high energy shots.
This can certainly create new fans to the franchise.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this. I am a ex-Trekker. I went to the first Star Trek convention in NY and had resigned myself to disappoinment. But I wasn't disappointed at all. It is a fun popcorn bubble gum movie with fast action, acceptable writing, surprisingly good acting - the casting is excellent, and a satisfying ending which leaves room for more movies. I would highly recommend it.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Unlike some of the previous Star Trek movies that were created more for a Trekkie audience I found this one to have much more depth. You don't have to be a Star Trek devotee to enjoy it, which means you stand a much better chance of getting wives, girl friends, or friends to go to it.
Like other reviewer have already said, this Star Trek has much more in the way of character development and back story of the crew of the Enterprise that really make the story fly (sorry, no pun intended).
The only complaint I had is a couple of things in the climax of the movie seemed contrived. I won't be a spoiler and tell what they were, though. Other than that, I recommend it highly and might even go see it again.

I saw this movie with a friend who grow up on Star Trek but doesn't consider himself as a Trekke. I only watched it a few times on tv , enough to know the main characters but I was totally able to follow the characters and the plot with enthusiasm. My friend who normally has a serious fit if a movie is more than 1:30hr long, didn't even notice that it was 2:06hrs.

I was terribly excited to see this, as my entire family have been Trekkers since the shows began. Even the under-tens love Star Trek episodes at our house. We enjoyed this movie thoroughly. The back-story was lovely, and gave the characters a rounder feel. Thank you, JJ Abrams, you've made an awesome thing, while staying true to the heart of Star Trek.

If you didn't like the TV Show, don't bother. But if you enjoyed it, you'll love this flick, especially if you don't try to think too hard and just enjoy the ride. All of it is done well. I just have to say that, in my opinion, what was done the best was the handling of the Dr. McCoy character, and I would've liked to have seen more of him later on in the finale. But of course, by that time, you're captivated with what they're doing with the Spock character. That was cool. But I personally got more out of McCoy.

It was funny. It was exciting. It was heartbreaking. It was heartwarming. There were MASSIVE explosions. Everything you could want in a film.
There was even good acting, which is very rare these days. I like the new crew a lot. Let's hope there are several more excellent films in our future.

I was not too keen about the 60's TV series but am a BIG fan of most of the movies. This movie in particular, I felt, had a good start with the earlier Star Trek series of movies beginning with The Wrath of Khan, especially when it came to referencing the Kobiashi Maru test for Kirk. I was surprised by the relationship between Spock and Uhura, but happy to see that he did have a more 'human' side to him in his early years, if that is what the original writers intended for Spock's character. I will go back to the theatre and see it again. I have told ALL my friends and coworkers that it is DEFINATELY worth the time to see!!
