This is a great movie made in the tradional Disney style. Romance, mystery, good vs. evil. Thought I had stepped back to the late sixties or gone back to my childhood. I never watched the original Speed Racer so the story was new to me, but the movie, although long, definitely kept my interest. The characters were interesting and the colors and the way the special effects were used is incredible and worth watching just to experience on the big screen. Some of the intense colors in the action scenes made me just stare in awe and think "how'd they do that?" I wouldn't take my kids under 5 because of some violence and a scene where the youngest brother flicks a bird at the bad guy, but 8 years and up will love this movie!

The movie was visually amazing. I had my six year old, his friend and my four year old. They loved it. They cheered when Speed raced. At the end the audience all clapped. It's a PG movie, so you need to understand there will be violence and a little blood shed. GO SEE SPEED RACER!

I thought the movie was great. I’ve never not seen a movie because of bad reviews, and this is just another example. My 5yr old son really wanted to see it, and I was surprised at how good it was based on how many don’t like it. I thought it had a good story, neat cars, and a very good ending too.
Again, if you have kids, especially boys, they will love it.

Went with the 10 year old and he thought it was great. It has the feel of Tron or Sky Captain in that 80% of the movie has no set (CGI). The racing scenes are on par with George Lucas' pod race, only there are 5 of them :). High paced, lots of action, above average acting (all actors made younger with CGI). Overall great movie if you can sit through a 2.25 hour cartoon.

I went to this movie with my kids, ready to suffer through a video-game style 3D trash. I was knocked off of my feet, this movie was great. If you take it for what it was meant to be, this movie will give you back the 2+ hours and then some. Susan Sarandon is amazing, as other actors. Special effects are intentionally non-photo realistic, and are cooked to perfection. What else can I say, I went in expecting a bomb and was blown away by this movie.

I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised. I grew up with Speed and thought this movie did the series justice. Good family movie, but there is some language scattered through (just in case anyone is sensitive to that). Overall, very fun movie.

Looking back on the "Original" animated series, it was a well done real life (with actual Humans) and now computer assist and very entertaining...that is if you can relate to the fact that somehow a "racecar and it's driver" were somhow going to change the world......I was entertained by it then, but still didn't "get it" but I watched it anyway,..that typical Japanese cartoon with the big eyed characters and the dubbed mouth action.....it was cool.....and my 8 year old daughter was riveted...wouldn't even get up to go to the bathroom.

I really wanted to see this movie more than anyone else in my family and am I glad I did! It was a great movie and my family (a 7 year old girl and 4 year old boy) loved it. My husband thought it was a little slow moving but enjoyed the end of the movie. I thought it was great from start to finish!!

My soon to be 7 year old son wanted to see this and with a rating of PG - and cartoony feel - I took him; At about the 40 minute mark there is a rather brutal attack on a person leaving much blood on the face -- this really disturbed my son who at that point deemed the movie too scary and insisted that we leave; Though I expected some mild violence - I wasn't expecting blood in a children's movie.. while we're okay with cartoon type violence - I don't think blood was necessary in that scene and I think my son would have been okay with the punching on it's own.

What a disappointment! I expected much better from the creators of "The Matrix." Even if you accept the movie for what it is, it needs to have 45 minutes cut out. The races make no sense at all. They consist of endless spins and jumps intended to be car karate. The characters each take turns making long, sappy speeches written by Hollywood committee. The movie's formula: speech, car karate, speech, people karate, speech... There is no dialog to make any of the characters seem real. There is no plot other than the idea that corporations are evil and the solution is to make them lose face (seriously? throwing chimp scat at people?). Throw in random images of a child and a chimp creating mayhem and some visual references to the original cartoon (Speed strikes his classic pose, Speed's bedroom wallpaper pattern) and that's the movie. The Wachowski brothers crashed and burned on this one.

I'm a fan and watcher of the original series and was glad to see that they stuck to the original story line. All my children, 12, 9, 5, and 3 enjoyed the movie. However, it may have been 20 min to long for my 3 year old. I would recommend the movie for the whole family. The special effects were awesome. One of the best scenes was the classic speed racer pose at the end of a race. Go Speed Go!!

My husband (who is an original Speed Racer fan, back in the day), our 8 year old son and I really enjoyed the new Speed Racer movie. My husband enjoyed the fact that they stayed within the original story, our son enjoyed the speed scenes, and I simply enjoyed the family values and the love between parent and child. Went as a family, it was a great movie! The only draw back was the length of it for the 4 and 2 year old. My 7 y/o daughter loved it! Her father and I both enjoyed it. Nice 70's colors! Would highly recommend it-left wanting more.

A lifetime Speed racer fan who can quote any scene from any episode I was extremely pleased with this movie. They stayed tru to the original and added new twists in an elegant manner. Really outstanding even though the critics panned it. One critic from Parents magazine said the movie was "cartoon-like". Can you believe it - it was a cartoon! I took my 10 yr old son and my 2 nephews 5 and 6. I was a little hesitant about it being 2 hours and 15 minutes long but it was good. I really enjoyed it. The special effects were awesome and I would see it again. I hope there is a sequel.

This movie was great! My husband and I took our 6 year old and we all loved it! The graphics were fantastic. The real life characters revealed the exact expressions of the cartoon characters which was hilarious--especially John Goodman as Pops. The decor of the set was totally kitsch. I want the wallpaper in their kitchen and bedrooms. The casting was amazing, especially spridle. Someone told me that there was no plot. This is NOT true. If you enjoyed speed racer as a kid, you'll love this movie. I wasn't a big fan as a kid, but it brought back great memories. The person who mentioned in their review that violence was so bad---I just don't get it. See the movie with your kids--a great family outing and a blast from the past!

I went into this movie with some reservations, having read some negative reviews, and had already watched Iron Man the week prior to this releasing. I wasn't sure anything could top that (this summer) in terms of visual effects and action... it turns out I was wrong. Speed Racer should be pretty well known to the majority of people at least 25 years of age or older. I had watched them casually over the years growing up, I was never really a die hard fan. But I had seen enough to know what to expect when going to see this movie. This story is about a struggle between corporate avarice, and individualistic freedom. It's got enough zany tidbits for the youngsters, and plenty of meaty story for the mature audience. You don't have to think very hard about the story, which is a strength for this kind of movie, it strikes a balance of being interesting without having to give it much thought. The driving sequences are absolutely incredibly over the top. They leave the bounds of realism and take you to a world of "what if's". As long as you can suspend your disbelief and live in this "what if" world for 2.5 hours, you will be sufficeintly entertained. The visuals are top notch, the bright and vivid colors are a perfect match for this film, it gives it an animated feel in a good way. The depth effects are actually quite provoking, the way they have characters in the foreground sharply detailed with lush backdrops also just as detailed. I am going to say I actually enjoyed this more than Iron Man, it's a shame that this movie didn't do so well, because it's definitely hard to compete with that juggernaut of a movie, but I'm glad I finally gave it a chance. Will definitely buy this one for the home collection.

Loved it Special effects were awesome and managed to get most of the episodes in ....if you were not a fan of the carton you probably wont get it but if you are like me and my 8 year old grandson it had most of the characters we were looking for!

Great action, amazing graphics and a good storyline. The characters are larger than life and you find yourself wanting Speed to win and do the right thing, and he does. I love the fight between good and evil and good prevailing. However, the PG rating is deceptive and I was surprised that the "A" word was used 6 times during the movie and the little boy gives "the bird" with his middle finger. My 8 year old commented after the movie that it was a great movie, but she didn't see the need to use the inappropriate words or actions, and it would have been a great movie without it, I agree.

This movie should of been rated PG-13, I took my 6-1/2 year son, and 1/2 way thru the movie when the violence began, we both had too much and walked out. Trust me, I didn't have to drag him out of the theatre, he was ready to go, so his interest really wasn't there.

I took my husband and my 8 year old son to see this at Studio Movie Grill. Thankfully, we were able to eat dinner while we watched this. It was very well made, great action shots, just incredibly long. I also thought the rating should be bumped up to PG-13. There was quite a bit of language (no f-bombs, but everything else), and a kid shooting the finger. My son has definetly seen those things before, but it would have been nice to prepare ourselves.

My seven year old Grandson thought that the movie, "Speed Racer", was very exciting and cool!! So did I!! I am the Grandma! He loved the fast cars!! He said that he would definitely tell his friends to see this movie!!

Took my family and my 9-year old son's friend to see this. My wife wasn't as thrilled but I think she took an immediate dislike because it looked like a live cartoon. It certainly has a style all its own. I loved the casting down to the chimp. Once you get used to the visuals, it is easy to get absorbed by the story. It is rated PG for good reason but all the boys gave it a thumbs up, including myself.
