The 3D will win you over; worth a second view

I am a 40-year-old computer nerd with three kids between 5 and 16. I love the original Tron because it basically visualized what happens inside a computer in the 80's. (Yes, it's basic, but it was accurate.)
The new Tron Legacy fulfilled my expecations of how the film would handle modern computing and how programs interact. The main undercurrent of the plot deals with allowing programs to be accessed freely (opensource?) or be more controlled by a powerful user or company (I won't mention the 'A' word). There is also a thoughtful question as to what is perfection in a system - both in the digital and real-life worlds.
I have owned the first Tron for many years and my kids have all watched it. My 16 year-old loved the new Tron; the special effects, the music (Daft Punk), the plot, the action. I enjoyed the fact that the story was clear to follow and basically continues the life of Flynn since he was able to prove ownership of his video games in the first Tron.
Although the movie is PG and has no scenes that would make me uncomfortable showing to my 5 and 7 year olds, I don't think they would understand the plot and the action sequences are probably a bit much for kids under 10.
If you are interested in technology and want to watch the future of 3D movies, I highly recommend this movie. Lucas Film Ltd. has created a visual masterpiece that will make you feel like you are looking through glass at another world that is real. I left the theater thinking "wow", and this is a movie I would go and see again.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The fact that it is a Roald Dahl story intriugued me since the kids and I love Willie Wonka and James and the Giant Peach. This movie is funny, witty, and definitely a Wes Anderson film. My two girls age 4 and 6 laughed and giggled during the movie and were talking about it the next day. They said they wanted to see it again. I would recommend this movie to adults with no kids also - the characters are interesting and just thinking about some of the funny scenes now makes me want to see it again. If you want a mindless Hollywood kids film, this is not it. If you are creative and want to experience a STORY that was brought to life on screen, this is the film for you!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I never watched the original Speed Racer so the story was new to me, but the movie, although long, definitely kept my interest. The characters were interesting and the colors and the way the special effects were used is incredible and worth watching just to experience on the big screen. Some of the intense colors in the action scenes made me just stare in awe and think "how'd they do that?" I wouldn't take my kids under 5 because of some violence and a scene where the youngest brother flicks a bird at the bad guy, but 8 years and up will love this movie!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
