An intense action, visually delightful thrillride

I went into this movie with some reservations, having read some negative reviews, and had already watched Iron Man the week prior to this releasing. I wasn't sure anything could top that (this summer) in terms of visual effects and action... it turns out I was wrong.
Speed Racer should be pretty well known to the majority of people at least 25 years of age or older. I had watched them casually over the years growing up, I was never really a die hard fan. But I had seen enough to know what to expect when going to see this movie.
This story is about a struggle between corporate avarice, and individualistic freedom. It's got enough zany tidbits for the youngsters, and plenty of meaty story for the mature audience. You don't have to think very hard about the story, which is a strength for this kind of movie, it strikes a balance of being interesting without having to give it much thought.
The driving sequences are absolutely incredibly over the top. They leave the bounds of realism and take you to a world of "what if's". As long as you can suspend your disbelief and live in this "what if" world for 2.5 hours, you will be sufficeintly entertained.
The visuals are top notch, the bright and vivid colors are a perfect match for this film, it gives it an animated feel in a good way.
The depth effects are actually quite provoking, the way they have characters in the foreground sharply detailed with lush backdrops also just as detailed.
I am going to say I actually enjoyed this more than Iron Man, it's a shame that this movie didn't do so well, because it's definitely hard to compete with that juggernaut of a movie, but I'm glad I finally gave it a chance. Will definitely buy this one for the home collection.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
