Saw it with my wife and 6 yr old son and we all loved it. It had a little something for everyone. My son was laughing uncontrollably at parts and really enjoyed the racing scenes. He hasn't enjoyed a movie that much since Transformers.

I went with a couple friends to the Imax in Chantilly, VA outside DC to see Speed Racer. I thought the movie was great and kept my attention the whole time. The Imax experience itself was awesome with the huge screen, awesome sound, and even though I wish my seat had been a little higher in the auditorium I was able to enjoy all the crisp visuals and excitement. This movie is a little hard to keep track of because it does move fast, but I think that is how you should take this movie. The actors did a great job, especially Emile, and all of my friends agreed that the reviews we had read before going seemed way too harsh on the movie. I would go see again!

I grew up on Speed Racer; I watched it everyday after school. I expected a campy American screen adaptation and that's what I happily got! I remember the fast paced action and the violent altercations between the race teams (don't you people remember????), but also recall how fun the storylines and plots were. The obscene gestures were uncalled for, but I can't say that they took away from my families enjoyment of the entire movie. If you expected anything less than what was in the original cartoon (aside from the cursing and rude gestures) shame on you! It was a thrill ride from beginning to end!!!!!

When Speed was racing the movie was amazing. When he was not, which is a good chunk of the middle, it dragged. You could cut out 30+ minutes of this way to long 2 hour and 15 minute movie and it would have been perfect. The colors were incredible and it was very much the old Speed Racer (the kid and monkey get anoying if you are over the age of 9 and its very kitch at times) which is fine mostly it was dragging between scenes in the middle that wasn't the best. But the race at the beginning and the one at the end were incredible. I just want to see those again.

This movie was great! There was action, comedy, a touch of romance, drama, AND science fiction thrown in! The colors were vivid and bright, which appeals to children. I took my 12 year old son to see the movie yesterday and he walked out of there talking non-stop about every part of the movie!!! He's been playing with his Hot Wheels cars pretending to be Speed! He's even started drawing the Mach 5 car shown in the movie! I can't say enough about a movie that's taken that hard-core video gamer away from the controller and back into his imagination where a 12 year old's mind should be!!!

While it was mostly entertaining and diverting, the hyperkenetic pacing, overlong race sequences and extremely thin plot made Speed Racer something of a mess. Understand that I came expecting speed, racing and little plot. The problem was that it exceeded my expectations. Visually, the movie was stunning and the Wachowskis fulfilled nostalgic needs by using some sequences that were, in my mind at least, structured almost identically to similar scenes in the cartoon. While very cool, it just wasn’t enough. Go see it if you like—you’ll certainly be entertained—but leave all your expectations at the door.

This was like a cross between the worlds longest cartoon and being on the brink of an epileptic seizure for well over two hours.
While I applaud the idea of making a "new kind of film" I really wasn't. If you want to see massive digital color grading, layering and uber blue screen then watch sin city or 300. At least those have good acting.

If you're a fan of the original series like me, you'll love that the movie is true to the original series and that each of the actors really did their homework and sucessfully captured the character from the original series. Even if you've never seen an episode, though, you've got a lot to look forward to in this movie. The movie does a good job of introducing the characters and building up the background so that newbies won't be lost. The special effects combine dazzling colors and brilliant CGI to make it feel like you're in the middle of the action. You almost expect to feel the rush of wind as the cars go by. The movie is over 2 hours long, but we never noticed because it was such a thrill ride. If you're a fan of the original, don't leave during the credits because there's a great nostalgia trip hearing the old theme, quotes from the series, and even the original Japanese theme all put together in a remix-type finish. If you take the kids, watch out for some language and Speed's younger brother giving the bad guy the finger (which would have been a tongue stuck out in the original). There was some violence, but it wasn't intense or gory (hence the PG rating). My family and I watched a late show and our only disappointment was in not being able to purchase another set of tickets and watch it all over again immediately!

...Here comes Speed Racer. He's a demon on wheels. ....much like this movie. Speed Racer brings you the literal definition of "spectacular." Seriously, the best case I can make for seeing this movie at the theater is because you NEED the giant screen to appreciate it. With this movie, Hollywood officially crosses the line of visual overstimulation. (Not for epileptics or those with headaches going in.) It's not going to translate well to the small screen, so see it now. This aside, it's a fun, exhilarating movie filled with wildly-stylized racing scenes comfortably laced together with a simplistic storyline. The biggest pothole on my road to a good time (Ha ha! Puns!) is the kid, Spritle, who we see WAY too much of. The chimp gets a pass on this because, well, he's a chimp! (And who doesn't like chimps, really?) So gather up a few friends and get a seat far enough back so you can take in the full vista of this movie. It'll be worth the ten dollar ticket, if not the grossly overpriced popcorn. Best line from the movie: "Was that a ninja?"

The movie was too long. About 30 minutes of it could have been omitted. A majority of the children watching it became restless or bored. The mild profanity was totally unnecessary, not to mention, the scene where a child actor gives someone 'the finger', wasn't appropriate. I think the rating should be changed to PG 13.

My son and I went to see this movie yesterday. My son thought it was an exciting and thrilling movie (in his own words). When the movie was ending he said "I think this is now my favorite movie". As a family that owns all the original Speed Racer series on DVD, we were waiting in breathless anticipation for this movie. We were shocked and very disappointed. We liked all the CGI and the race sequences, but thought the extent of violence and offensive language justified a PG-13 rating, not a simple PG rating. The movie is heavily advertised to very young viewers, so we found it shocking that the directors would choose to have the youngest cast member (Spreidel) flip the bird at one of the "bad guys" where sticking his tongue at them would have sufficed. It was obvious that the directors viewed most of the offensive language as intentional, not incidental, as many of the characters using it lingered over the words to emphasize their use. No sportscaster, for example, would have broadcast such language during an actual sporting event. Overall, we would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 13.

This would've been 5 starts if it weren't for the totally unnecessary 4 or 5 curse words.
My kids (10yr dd, 8yr dd, and 4yo ds) really enjoyed it as did my dh. The plot was hard for my 4yo to follow but my girls had no problem understanding what was happening.

I used to watch the Speed Racer cartoons when I was a child. Watching this movie was great!!! It made me laugh, it made me happy, sad (not that much, just enough to have a sense of depth with the audience), it was suspenseful, and IT ALWAYS MOVED!!! What an ACTION PACKED MOVIE!!! Coolest movie made! Unfortunately, they had to ruin it by adding a quick finger jesture and 4 letter words! Mother of 4,6,9,and 12 year old - what a surprise! I should have read the review, but the boys couldn't wait to go - seeing the trailers at past movies! What's a good decent mother to do! I told them now I cannot buy the DVD when it comes out! They are mad, but at least they got to see the movie! It really was awesome - yet spoiled by #$%@! Buyer beware! My older girls said they should have made 2 versions - this one should have been PG13!

Took my 10 & 9 year old daughters and soon to be 4 year old son, they loved as did I. The actors/actresses were perfect fits for their roles. It was entertaining and family oriented, which is great. that said, being a Speed Racer fan from my days of watching the cartoon, I think there could be a super major hit to this in a version without the animation, and just live characters, such as done with Iron Man.

Speed Racer is one of the best computer animated films EVER! It's got everything, romance, drama, comedy, action, and even lessons to be learned. I went in to this movie thinking it would be a bust like the punisher or the hulk, but I was happy to say I LOVED IT! GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!

I am not one to go to the movies to see comic book or cartoons from the past brought to life on the big screen. But I saw the preview and thought it looked awesome, and I was wrong. It was better than I ever thought it was going to be. It was an awesome story, great visuals, every character was filled perfetly, it was exciting, emotional and fun. The fight scenes were done perfectly...they looked unrealistic but weren't supposed to look real. It was BEYOND AWESOME!

Great movie. We all loved it. We have 3 children, 8,8,5, all of whom were cheering and yelling for Speed, and the "Good guys" during the altercations. The whole movie kept us on the edge of our seats, and excited. The only thing that REALLY BUGGED US was when Sprittle gave the "bird". That was not necessary. Go see it though!! My husband and I did miss hearing the theme from the original Speed Racer at the end too.

I liked the part when the little kid did the kung fu fighting. It was cool when the car did tricks around the bend and up the curve. ~ a 5 yr old There was too much unnecessary violence, torture, poisoning, language, obscene gestures, and gun play. I did not like having to explain the death early in the movie. I had to cover his eyes. Most PG movies I don't have to do that. Lesson learned! ~ a mom
