I think it's easy to get caught up in the awe of a "comics-to-film" movie like this, because there seems to be magic in the graphics and effects, yet those things alone cannot save a good thing gone terribly wrong. I grew up on Transformers, basically, and it doesn't take adult language and adult situations to bring an iconic kids' show to the silverscreen. "Punkass Decepticon..."? You've got to be kidding me! Not to mention all of the awful language used by the twin Autobots, throughout the entire movie. For those taking their children to get a glimpse of what they grew up on, this is an outrage. Some producers feel like as if today's movies need to be dumbed down to appeal to the masses. Tiss, tiss...
The movie left me speechless! The plot, the storyline, the backstories, the drama, the visual effects...all left me in awe! I am so glad that this novel finally reached the eyes and ears of the masses!
There were no moments in this movie that really justifies an over the top review. This movie took me back to the Friday the 13th series (mask and all). The predator toying with the prey, the predator and the prey hiding in plain site, and psychotic knife play. It was interesting, yet not engulfing.
I grew up on Speed Racer; I watched it everyday after school. I expected a campy American screen adaptation and that's what I happily got! I remember the fast paced action and the violent altercations between the race teams (don't you people remember????), but also recall how fun the storylines and plots were. The obscene gestures were uncalled for, but I can't say that they took away from my families enjoyment of the entire movie. If you expected anything less than what was in the original cartoon (aside from the cursing and rude gestures) shame on you! It was a thrill ride from beginning to end!!!!!
I told my pals months ago, when I learned that Robert Downey Jr. was chosen for the lead role, that this movie had the makings of an Epic "Comics-to-Film" adaptation and it delivered! The supporting cast of Paltrow, Bridges, and Howard was amazingly put together. Jeff Bridges played his role with the precision of a ginsu wielding chef! I was texting friends and family well into the middle of night after seeing this movie.
