As a family that owns all the original Speed Racer series on DVD, we were waiting in breathless anticipation for this movie. We were shocked and very disappointed. We liked all the CGI and the race sequences, but thought the extent of violence and offensive language justified a PG-13 rating, not a simple PG rating. The movie is heavily advertised to very young viewers, so we found it shocking that the directors would choose to have the youngest cast member (Spreidel) flip the bird at one of the "bad guys" where sticking his tongue at them would have sufficed. It was obvious that the directors viewed most of the offensive language as intentional, not incidental, as many of the characters using it lingered over the words to emphasize their use. No sportscaster, for example, would have broadcast such language during an actual sporting event. Overall, we would not recommend it to anyone under the age of 13.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
