...Here comes Speed Racer. He's a demon on wheels. ....much like this movie. Speed Racer brings you the literal definition of "spectacular." Seriously, the best case I can make for seeing this movie at the theater is because you NEED the giant screen to appreciate it. With this movie, Hollywood officially crosses the line of visual overstimulation. (Not for epileptics or those with headaches going in.) It's not going to translate well to the small screen, so see it now.
This aside, it's a fun, exhilarating movie filled with wildly-stylized racing scenes comfortably laced together with a simplistic storyline. The biggest pothole on my road to a good time (Ha ha! Puns!) is the kid, Spritle, who we see WAY too much of. The chimp gets a pass on this because, well, he's a chimp! (And who doesn't like chimps, really?)
So gather up a few friends and get a seat far enough back so you can take in the full vista of this movie. It'll be worth the ten dollar ticket, if not the grossly overpriced popcorn.
