This movie reminded me of why I go to movies - for entertainment. It was, for me, the right mix of action, drama, and humor. It didn't hurt to have those familiar characters in a new light, it gave them a new dimension. There's bound to be dissenting opinion, given the sheer number of dedicated fans of the old Star Trek, but I felt it was a labor of love from people who'd grown up with the old franchise.

A good movie overall. Lots of action and a decent story line. Even made me laugh a few times with some 80's like one liners. I took my 17 year old daughter to this, and she had no problem following the story, and even understood the reference to the first series. If this is the start of a new series, it should be pretty good.

being a long time long time trek fan, I have to admit I enjoyed the flick. The various treks have all used changes in time lines, but I'd have to say this was not one of the better time shift scenarios (see STTNG - "Yesterday's Enterprise" for the best). Also, the premises for progression through the ranks were somewhat ludicrous. The cgi effects were first rate, the acting was ok, and the cast (leonard nimoy not withstanding) was adequate eye candy. The action scenes were well staged, entertaining, and went off like lightning. Very few movies have been so obviously made to be the first in a series, which was slightly annoying. With a little luck, subsequent episodes will have some more substance.

While the movie satisfies somewhat the longings of any Trekkie or sci-fi buff to see expansive visions of the future, it is a shallow, adolescent effort at best. The special effects dominate completely, and character development is an afterthought. What little depth that is attempted, especially regarding Captain Kirk, left me cold. As portrayed, Kirk is just a smart-alek kid, not the sophisticated, worldly, charming and witty Kirk we know from the TV series and previous movies. This movie is clearly aimed at teenage boys, not adults.

A great "reboot" to the franchise. Perfect blend of action and humor. First ten minutes were actually emotional and from there on you care about the characters, which helps drive the story. A great, fun summer movie whether you are a Trek fan or not.

I hate going back to the beginning scenarios, but this one worked for me. I don’t want to be a spoiler so I’ll just say that this movie brings you back to the beginning for a reason.
It has the right mix of comedy, drama and adventure that has made Star Trek world famous.
Being a long time Star Trek fan, I found the new cast to be a perfect fit (Especially McCoy). The special effects (my favorite was engaging the warp drive) are nothing short of amazing. There was not one dull moment in this over 2 hour film. This movie should launch the next generation of Star Trek Fans. I look forward to many sequels.
Last tip, it’s worth it to catch this film at a big screen theater.

The family and I went to see this movie last night. Even the non-TREK fans loved this movie. Those who are fans of the origial shows and movies will see subtle familiarity with the characterization in the younger versions of their favorite characters. The action starts immediately and keeps on going. Don't wait to see this on your TV. Definitely see it in the theater.

This movie was great! J.J. Abrams did a wonderful job mixing the old with the new. You could enjoy this movie if you were a fan of the TV show or if you've never heard of it before. The storyline was creative and interesting and if you were a fan of the old show made you really try to remember details. I'm dying to watch them again! Casting was spot on!

Initially, I was concerned at the young actors ability to fill the shoes of the classic icons, but was pleasantly surprised at how well they all did. The story line was great, and I though Kirk was VERY believable, he was/is a stubborn character, & has to develop from a boy, I can see it well with this character. The best though, was the actor who played McCoy. He nailed McCoy from the moment he came on the screen. Chekov and Sulu were also presented well. I hope to see more movies come out of this time line, and I do hope they can keep the cast.. Well done Zackary Quinto, loved you as Spock!

This film had many problems, much of which stemmed from a flawed attempt to "reboot" the original series and re-imagine the original characters. The new Kirk is an unredeemable d**chebag who is so unlikable I would not believe anyone's willingness to follow him anywhere. But the whole time-travel-based opening premise makes no sense and is so insulting to anyone with a drop of intelligence that the whole rest of the film is just a ridiculous space romp that's not even particularly fun.

If you haven't seen any previous Star Trek, don't worry. I've got a feeling the whole thing is about to start over. Action is good. Classic Trek is strong. There are a few too many cliches but overall not bad.
You'll want to catch this in theaters - IMAX if you can.

I loved it! The time travel was a little too much. I enjoyed seeing all of the characters but it was a little over Nimoy -ed; he sounded like an MC introducing Montgomery Scott (loved the guy who played Scotty). The love relationship between Spock and Uhura was a out of character for him.

bones had potential yet role was too short and under developed. over spocked especially nimoy. movie too long and over done special effects same as any other current space flick. best scene was jim spit talking a green alien. would have been better focusing on developing supporting roles and eliminate nimoy entirely.

To say I was not looking forward to seeing this movie is an understatement. I didn't know anything about Star Trek. I've seen bits and pieces of episodes over the years, but none of the other movies. I kept getting Scottie, Sulu, and Spock all mixed up. I know, I know...I'm such a girl.
But, I have a group of friends who COULD NOT WAIT for this movie to come out. I was subjected to repeated viewings of the trailers and lots of "Trek" talk. I had to go see the movie. I am so glad I did. I believe it was made for people like me who do not know the back story and for all the hardcore fans. The movie is absolutely AMAZING! The action was cool, the pace was right, the special effects were awesome--I loved Star Trek!

I have seen all the Star Trek versions, and this is an excellent effort to re-invigorate the Star Trek universe. The casting and acting are very good (kudos to Karl Urban as a younger, more revealing McCoy), the story is engaging if initially covoluted, and requiring a suspension of logic, and the time-line shift to an alternate history allows for new approaches and more concepts for future movies. The Vulcan issue can be resolved by the discovery of "lost" colonies of Vulcans (as was done for the Romulans). Considering the dearth of creative entertainment available to the public today, we need all the "Star Treks" we can get. Live long and prosper, Star Trek!

Although this is a reboot of the franchise, taking place before the events of the classic series, the piece of prior Star Trek canon which it most closely resembles, in my opinion, is Star Trek IV (the Voyage Home). The character development, humor and tone resembles that movie in many respects. It is probably no coincidence that, of the previous Trek movies, Star Trek IV was the most accessible to non-Trek fans.

I haven't missed a Trek movie or series yet and they just keep getting better and better. Love the story line. The actors were very recognizable as the characters they were to be playing except for the Spock/Uhura connection. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the extremely jerky camera movements during close ups or face shots. They must not have used a tripod or what ever, so the camera tended to move around. I ALWAYS see my SciFi on the Ultra screen so that REALLY exagerated the jerkyness. Otherwise all the graphics were AMAZING. I would even pay to go and see it again if there weren't so many good movies coming out this weekend. Go and enjoy!!!

WOW-E-WOW! Was this film excellent or what?! Where do I begin? The story was awesome and these bunch of actors really deliver! There were times when the picture/camera seemed a little shaky which made me a little dizzy, but the movie is so action packed most people may not even notice it. I can't wait to see the next installment with this cast.

Exxcellent movie and I enjoyed the twists with the unexpected love interests and the spot on performance by "Bones". I have seen it mentioned that the actor should be up for the Best Supporting category and I agree; hopefully, the folks doing the nominating and judging will remember the original "Bones" and his younger long lost twin.
If you're debating seeing the movie, stop the deliberations and just go. I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with this film and I look forward to the next two movies.

Another Great Star Trek Film. Having seen all the Star Trek movies, this one is definitely in the top two or three. Even with all the variances from the other movies, they manage to pull it all together in the end and resolve any questions you have on the time travel aspects. A great movie. Definitely worth the theater experience.

My wife and I went to see this movie. It was great. If you are not a trekkie person, you will still enjoy this movie. It has much action, thrills and excitement. With the new technology with graphics, you will feel like if you are there. You will absolutely enjoy it. Go and see it. Awesome!

It was fun, it was thrilling, it was heart warming... all in all an EXCELLENT movie. I'm a Trekkie and can say that it will satisfy Trekkie fans everywhere. And if you're not a Trekkie, it will make you an instant fan. All the characters were perfectly cast. And I loved how they worked in Leonard Nimoy. J. J. Abrams has done it again. This is not your father's Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, I'm a long-time Trekkie. But JJ Abrams has done for Star Trek almost what Batman Begins did for the Caped Crusader. (Almost, not quite)
Some of the critics cite how this movie departs from the existing Star Trek 'history'. I feel that the key components were still incorporated. The core of what makes Star Trek great is still here, but with an updated feel and joyous new look.
The effects are stunning and I found the acting to (generally) be quite good. There are things about this movie that suprised me, but whatever minor quibbles I may have felt are greatly outweighed by the fact that new life has been breathed into my old beloved tales and characters.
