I wasn't sure what to expect based on the few reviews I had read, but am a fan of Natalie Portman and was impressed that she spent time learning ballet. The movie was excellent and I would absolutely recommend, just not for those newly dating. I saw this with a relatively new acquaintance and was slightly uncomfortable with how much sex was portrayed. Although most was fantasy, I wasn't aware it would be quite so much. The movie was great, just go see with the right person or group.

Not a Trekkie but this was a WOW movie

To say I was not looking forward to seeing this movie is an understatement. I didn't know anything about Star Trek. I've seen bits and pieces of episodes over the years, but none of the other movies. I kept getting Scottie, Sulu, and Spock all mixed up. I know, I know...I'm such a girl.
But, I have a group of friends who COULD NOT WAIT for this movie to come out. I was subjected to repeated viewings of the trailers and lots of "Trek" talk. I had to go see the movie. I am so glad I did. I believe it was made for people like me who do not know the back story and for all the hardcore fans. The movie is absolutely AMAZING! The action was cool, the pace was right, the special effects were awesome--I loved Star Trek!

As long as you are going for a MOVIE and to be ENTERTAINED, then you will be. If you are looking for the movie to follow the comics, you will be disappointed. Most of the special effects were pretty good, just don't look in the mirror too closely (you'll know what I mean).
