While the movie satisfies somewhat the longings of any Trekkie or sci-fi buff to see expansive visions of the future, it is a shallow, adolescent effort at best. The special effects dominate completely, and character development is an afterthought. What little depth that is attempted, especially regarding Captain Kirk, left me cold. As portrayed, Kirk is just a smart-alek kid, not the sophisticated, worldly, charming and witty Kirk we know from the TV series and previous movies. This movie is clearly aimed at teenage boys, not adults.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
