This is not your father's Star Trek. Don't get me wrong, I'm a long-time Trekkie. But JJ Abrams has done for Star Trek almost what Batman Begins did for the Caped Crusader. (Almost, not quite)
Some of the critics cite how this movie departs from the existing Star Trek 'history'. I feel that the key components were still incorporated. The core of what makes Star Trek great is still here, but with an updated feel and joyous new look.
The effects are stunning and I found the acting to (generally) be quite good. There are things about this movie that suprised me, but whatever minor quibbles I may have felt are greatly outweighed by the fact that new life has been breathed into my old beloved tales and characters.
