Everyone does a fantastic job here, and the results are shocking. It is not a pleasant movie but it is very real. Since I live in the Bronx everything seemed eerily familiar. If there are not several Oscar nominations here I will be very surprised. However, the titles and credits were, to me, unreadable, and for that reason I took away one star.

This was a great film with amazing acting. The subject matter was so raw and painful, and it amazed me that some people actually bought pre-teen kids to the theater. Really bad parenting to display in a film about really bad parenting. Was also hard to see in the theater because so manyu people were talking to the screen and laughing at the abuse. You could really understand how this kind of situation exists in that world. I would wait for wider distribution and see it in a civilized theater!

Oh, yeah. Watch the acads. These ladies will be at the top of the list. It's hard to watch this raw depiction, but so worth the effort. Very adult material and language. Once you get past it, you can see the character development. As for the mom, there are no words to describe what it must have taken to put forth that fine acting.

An excellent film. A painstakingly honest account of how hard life can be for some. The cast was magnificent. Monique and Gabourey brought a realistic dimension to an unfortunate situation. I was very impressed with how much this movie stayed true to the book, while not leaving the portion of the audience who did not read the book lost. It definitely stood alone as it's own entity. Mo'Nique did an excellent job and her performance is absolutely Oscar worthy. It is a heavy film, but it is worth the watch.

I'm straddling the fence on this review because I can't determine if Precious is one of the best or worst movies I've ever seen; however, it is by far the most depressing. On the one hand, the actors did an amazing job bringing the characters to life. On the other hand, there were not nearly enough highs to balance the extreme lows in this film. Though it was well-made and may be healing for those who can relate to "Precious," I did not leave the theatre feeling hopeful. Instead, I left feeling deeply saddened and emotionally disturbed.

This movie held me from the start. And Precious was never overplayed - in fact was quite realistic.
I think her mother, the character you have to hate, was much more multi-dimensional - and her raw talent showed throughout.
But would I call this the best thing since sliced-bread? No - but worth seeing nonetheless.
Good, realistic, entertaining movies are getting harder and harder to come by these days, so don't miss it.
But, for full disclosure, while my husband and I enjoyed this, my mother slept through most of it - and she was really looking forward to seeing it.

This movie was awesome. It was raw like the book but dissimilar from the book in other respects. I thought the characters were real, I cried, laughed, and truly felt for Precious during this film. To begin with the movie is awsome and the minute I walked out to the theater I was texting my friends that they have to see Precious. My God what else could this poor child have to go thru. I was so proud of her at the end when she was walking with both her children what a strong and courageous young women. Even though I was so angry at her mother for what she allowed to happen to her child, I felt sorry for her and truly believe that is why people should have some type of mental health counseling. I'm not sure how much was fiction or fact but this is such an important subject matter. This movie deals with child abuse, and mental illness in such a palpable way that you forget it is a movie. Monique who I love made me hate her for real. Her passionate portrayal of an obvious schizophrenic brought truly to life the pain that goes on in the inner city. I felt that everyone in this movie gave honest and realistic portrayals and I would love to see all again on the big screen.

This movie was hard to watch, but it should be a requirement for all mothers, fathers and pregnant women. I want all pregnant moms and dads to see this movie before the baby is born. I had several emotions, crying, anger, sadness, love, and hate. As a mother I felt so sad for Precious. This movie made me think and search my soul. The Movie Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire is an excellent movie. This movie teaches you about pain, struggle, abuse, and above all the ability to break through it all. It is nice to see Clarice Precious Jones's transformation and growth. She reaches a point where she overcomes her illiteracy, and faces her abuser (mother) and walks away with her small children in tow with love in her heart and a new found confidence that makes her whole. Mos Def! I would recommend everyone to go and see this movie. The movie was very touching, sad and educational. This movie was wonderful. It was touching, sad, but true. It made me think of how many girls could be living in my neighborhood who might be going through something like this. I would recommend this picture to everyone. Anyone who is not touched by this movie has no heart. I don't usually see a movie that soon after it is released but I'm glad I did.

Great acting!!! But this movie will have you stll thinking about it the next day...still wondering how...and then sad and sick to the stomach for any child being raised in that atmosphere.

Riveting. Epic. A classic portrayal of an innocent girl exposed to a typical tumultuous life in a terrible unforgiving world. I have never been so angry watching a movie; angry that any parent would subject their own children to such unacceptable circumstances for government welfare and the meaningless love of a filthy man. What’s heart wrenching is, although this was a movie, we KNOW things like this actually occur. Never pass up the opportunity to be kind to people. All that exists in your little world is not all that there is.

I thought precious was a great movie that exposed a lot of abuse that happens in all families. I went to purchase the book because I had to read more. I think the movie will opoen up a lot of discussion in all our communities. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone over the age of 16.
