To start, the 3D to me was just incidental. When they made the effort, it was amazing. But it doesn't make or break the movie.
The storyline is delightful, and I'm embarrassed as an adult to say this, but the character development was excellent. The green message or nation-building (or both) message is obvious.
This is not really a child movie - the language and war scenes, etc. The battle scenes are too long.
But my husband and I enjoyed this immensely and would recommend it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Very good, but what's all the ruckus about?

This movie held me from the start. And Precious was never overplayed - in fact was quite realistic.
I think her mother, the character you have to hate, was much more multi-dimensional - and her raw talent showed throughout.
But would I call this the best thing since sliced-bread? No - but worth seeing nonetheless.
Good, realistic, entertaining movies are getting harder and harder to come by these days, so don't miss it.
But, for full disclosure, while my husband and I enjoyed this, my mother slept through most of it - and she was really looking forward to seeing it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
