I loved, loved, loved this movie. The only dissapointment was the IMAX. I have not seen an IMAX since I saw a hang gliding/travel adventure that was truely 3-D and felt like I was in the movie. The picture was great but it was not in any way 3-D. I guess I'll have to see it non IMAX so I can compare. I was just expecting more 3-D. But it was still a very fun movie. I just wouldn't pay extra for IMAX.

I was expecting a good show but was not holding my breath for the story - I know all the old ones too well. The use of a time breach was clever but not overplayed - it allowed for all the best things about Star Trek and some new ones too. Leonard Nimoy was neither gratuitous nor overbearing as he has been in some of the other movies - a great piece of directing I would say. Compassion for the Romulans? A twenty first century touch, perhaps, but again not overplayed as folks trapped in their own story. Not trying to bring in every character, ever was good as was the gradual introduction of the principals.
Good movie - don't play by the book for the next one either!!

Da*mit, Jim! I'm a doctor, not a movie reviewer! - Seriously, GREAT film! My wife, who is NOT a trekkie, LOVED it, too! Great cast, fantastic score, awesome sfx. My only criticism is that some of the action scenes were a little too herky-jerky to follow clearly. I would have liked to have seen them a little more clearly, although I know that is a style choice. Overall, a supremely fantastic theatre experience. It is why people go to the movies!!!

The IMAX was nice, but not required. I enjoy the better picture and the comfortable seats, but see this movie in any theater and you won't be dissapointed. Sure, I am a Star Trek fan and I thought this was the best movie I have ever seen. I took my family, who were not ST fans, and they LOVED the movie as well, so I know it's not just me. As mentioned. the characters were spot on. Capturing the quirks and nuances of each character was brilliant, Spock was especially good, having his usual conflicts between emotion and logic. I wont say more, (your welcome) just get out there and see this movie. JJ Abrams....I want MORE!

I had never seen any of the TV shows or movies, but I thought this movie was excellent. It was everything I wanted in an action/sci-fi flick. It definitely has future sequel power. I am looking forward to future installments.
From what I understand, past Star Trek fans will love it. But I can tell you from my own experience, if you didn't know anything about the series previously, don't fear, you'll love it too.

Having grown up with the ORIGINAL Star Trek and all of the spin-offs (NG, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise), everyone involved with the production of this movie did a phenomenal job. I saw this first on the regular screen, and then the IMAX - wish I had seen it in IMAX first! With as many movies, and TV series, it was a daunting task to bridge those years between Enterprise and the original Star Trek series.
The cast did an excellent job with their characters. Instantly, we could recognize Kirk, Bones, Uhura, Spock, Scotty, Checkov and Sulu. Each of them picked up the essence of the central characters we've come to know.
I can't wait to see what they do in the subsequent movies.

Star Trek was engaging and it didn't have any dull moments. That being said, there are several inconsistencies in the film that can be annoying if you think about them. But if all you want is a thrill ride, and there is nothing wrong with that, then this movie does the job just fine.

The IMAX theater in the City Center 15: Cinema De Lux in White Plains, New York has a problem. They have done a terrible job of getting rid of the fruit flies, fleas and spiders who like to land on or crawl across the lens of the projector. While watching the highly magnified movies of IMAX, it is disconcerting to see what appears to be a giant fly on the face of the leading lady. It distracts the viewers from the artistic work of the movie. STAR TREK was not the TV show, it was the beginning of many journeys and I do believe this will be the franchise of the 2010s. Nice balance between staying true to original and updating for today's audience. Even little details like the phasers and uniforms were well done - updated yet retro. Good movie for everyone, not just those of us who grew up on the original. PG13 is the right rating - lots of fighting, some s*xual references and Kirk (of course!) womanizing everywhere he goes - so parents be aware. Effects were great, story was strong...character development was enjoyable. I'm sure there was tons I misssed on first viewing.

I think Mr Gene Rodenberry would have been pleased with JJ Abrams' vision of Kirk and company on their, and the Enterprise's, maiden voyage. The casting was great, the action thrilling and there were enough references to keep Trekkers nodding in recognition without losing those who aren't familiar with the franchise. The entire audience broke out into applause and cheers when the movie was over... it was that good. I thoroughly enjoyed Star Trek and am going back next week to see it again.

We're not die hard trekkies, but are big fans of the franchise. A little hesitant about this movie-remakes rarely work well. This was great! The casting was excellant and we really enjoyed the way they made the original characters much more multi-dimensional. Lots of "on" jokes for trek fans. Not 100% perfect, but no movie is....we will see this again and likely buy the DVD when it come out!

As a rebirth of the franchise this movie ranks very high among its previous releases.... I found a few plot elements to be major flaws for the Star Trek world... 1) Red Matter... what was Spock doing with enough to destroy the entire galaxy when just a single drop can create a black hole, 2) Transporting from the planet to a ship 'warping' away... I guess 'out of transporter range' is no longer an issue; and 3) ejecting the warp core to escape the gravitational pull of 'said black hole'... I enjoyed the movie, even saw it twice and would recommend it to anyone... Long term fans will have definite issues.. as with any Star Trek movie...

As a die hard Startrek fan, I will be the first to admit that this movie has resurected life back into Startrek. The action and special effects were good and given Startrek a 2009 update.
I'm not sure I agree with the timeshift story line to much, but I do understand the purpose.
I wqonder if the intent is to make more movies or create a TV spinoff again.

JJ and Company should be arrested for what they did to Star Trek. They Trashed 40+ years of cannon for what I now call McStartrek. So many plot holes... Jesus... The Horror of it all.
The Cast was OK... I feel sorry for them the most. At least the casting department did their homework. Maybe the next film can fix this mess... so long as JJ stays out of it, and bring in real ST people.
Please, in the name of God... no more "Fringe... In... Spacccceeeeeee".

I'm not a trekky but I absolutely loved this film. It was full of action and humor, and even a little romance. The cast for Spock and James T. Kirk were fantastic.

I had given up on the Star Trek franchise because it had become bogged down with feminized lead characters and overly precious PC sensibilities. This film has butt-grabbing Captain Kirk setting things right!
