Absolutely loved it. Those were the times I wish we could go back to. Of course, they had to Hollywood it up a bit, but what a great mind escape for a couple of hours. I would see it again, it was wonderful to hear the people in the theatre laughing outloud.

What a fantastic movie. The music was great, the characters were funny and the story line was hilarious. Other than a few instances where the thick British accent made it difficult to understand the dialogue, the movie was excellent.

As a Philip Seymour Hoffman fanatic, my expectations were unfairly raised as this movie left me wanting more. The intellectual performance you're used to from Hoffman just isn't carried through in this anti-climactic, predictable film that should be positioned more as a British comedy, not to the extent of Monty Python, but more like Animal House at sea. Trust me though, this is no cult classic to be.
A fun one-time watch for a light chuckle and an easy evening makes this a strong #2 choice for any night at home with DVD.

Wonderfully funny, it portrayed the 60's exactly as the "drop out, turn on, love-in" madcap, zany decade the decade advertised itself to be. So I felt the sweet pathos when The Count said, "These are the best years of our lives."
And of course next came Viet Nam, the Civil Rights movement, the Womens' Movement, Herpes Virus, serious drug problems...
It was even more fun because of Branagh's Hitler-look-alike role portrayal as the repressive government hack. Emma Thompson played the narcissistic Mom perfectly.
The Brits really know how to make comedy.

Slow start, but then laughed throughout the movie. The soundtrack was "AMAZING". Storyline was ok - not very convincing, but LOVED the music. Everyone in the theatre applauded at the end. Many of my favorite actors & they did a great job - especially Phillip Seymour Hoffmann and Bill Nighy. Yes, it was silly and not truly historically accurate (the Dunkirk-like boat brigade at the end) but Who Cares? Everyone can use a good hearty laugh.

If Pirate Radio was a food it would be a great big plate of spaghetti with a beefy tomato hearty "nostalgia" sauce. On the side would be the most perfectly cooked "historical and dramatic" garlic bread. There would be some extra grated "humorous" Parmesan cheese to sprinkle over the top. Finally a medium priced fine red wine that would help tie everything together and finish off the meal - "like a song"! This film is nearly perfect in it's portrayal, plotting, dialogue and humor. The only weakness is the length (too long) and some meandering at the mid-point of the movie. Smart move to include many stand-out songs from the period. Director Curtis did not make the same mistake Ang Lee made in his Woodstock movie. See it!

Funny movie. Great acting. The music brings back memories. We loved it. Definitely will see it again. Let the music never die! Only sour note was the very ending -- Duffy's version of Lorraine Ellison's "Stay With Me"? Had to be Janis or even Bette Midler.

After reading reviews, I decided to chance it, and went to see Pirate Radio, it was hilarious, had a story line, great actors. Everything u cud want in a movie, must say BEST ONE i've seen in quite a while. Loved the music as i had older bros/sis that listened to beetles, rolling stones, etc.... and i wasn't too far behind them.
