A wonderful panorama of Australia beautifully filmed. wrapped around a familiar story, but filled with interesting historical information. Acting is adequate; Nichole is beautiful, my wife says Hugh is a hunk, and there is no great intellectual heavy lifting. All in all, a very pleasant rainy afternoon, if a trifle long.

Everything about this movie was great - the acting, the photography, the scenery. It was just a little long, though. The chemistry between Kidman and Jackman was wonderful. The only good thing about it being long was I got to see hunky Hugh Jackman more!

This is an old-fashioned frontier epic--really, it's a Western, with an Australian setting and cast. It has sweeping scope and cinematographical grandeur, and the performances are affecting, if a bit stereotypical.
It's just a tad too long--it has about three endings, kinda like Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
Overall, though, I recommend it highly. Thoroughly entertaining and well-worth the admission price.

My wife and I greatly enjoyed this movie. In our opinion it is destined to become a classic epic romantic story. I do not know why the critics are giving this movie such bad reviews. I thought it was very good. Yes it is long but who could not watch Hugh Jackman for almost 3 hours. It is like watching 2 different movies. I was not aware of the history . Great date movie. It is not Gone with the Wind....but what movie ever could be. It is its own movie. This was excellent! I wanted to stay and see it again. A lovely love scene, (hinted at, not shown) and 1 cuss word, this film stood on it's own without all of the dirty work. A great story, and a child that you couldnt keep your eyes off of, I just sat there and said Wow. A little hokey at times, a few effects that could of been better Yeah, but it did not matter! We were all in tears at the end. I am going back next weekend!

My husband and I LOVED this movie. Since we love Nicole, Hugh and Baz Luhrmann so much, we knew it would be wonderful, but it exceeded our expectations. Australia has something for everyone and it is just a really enjoyable movie. Its not often that directors take on a huge, sweeping story like this where everything is done BIG, but its so great when they do it and really pull it off. Go see it as soon as you can!

A deeply affecting and very well done movie with fine performances that I would strongly recommend almost regardless of cinematic taste. Not particularly original, however, which almost led me to give it 4 stars rather than 5. Essentially a midlevel intensity western -- which isn't to say there isn't real violence and excitement -- combined with a chick flick. Great cinematography and a lot less of the typical Luhrman excesses than the reviews had led me to expect.

I'm so glad I saw this movie on the big screen. The cinematography was unbelievable - it's a stunning tour of northern Australia. Hugh Jackman was fantastic. Some of the other acting was a bit overdone. The first 30 minutes are a bit rough - I felt like the two lead characters went from hate to love with no transition. And the first 15 minutes was almost a bit cheesy. But after the rough beginning, it was really fantastic.

This was breath taking in its photography of the beautiful country of Australia. I loved both Nicole and Hugh in their roles. There was also more to the story than a typical love story or saving the ranch, as racial discrimination towards Nullah and Aboriginal people was a central theme. The war and attack by the Japanese added some historical perspective to the story as well. I would love to see a sequel if it is ever produced in the future.

Australia is a wonderful movie. I went with my husband, my 15-year-old daughter and my 10-year-old son and all of us loved it. Hugh Jackman is HOT! Nicole Kidman, while not always my favorite actress, did a very good job and her on-screen chemistry with Jackman was pretty steamy. The child who played Nalluh was absolutely beautiful and a promising little actor. There are some high-powered aussie actors in this film which makes its message all the more powerful.

I loved every bit of this movie because it provided the audience to become apart of what was really going on through visual engagement. I laughed, cried and rejoiced in a matter of hours and enjoyed each minute that went by. A movie to share with a date or family, this epic production reeled me in. Although it started slowly and without a discernable "tone", it unfolded into a classic love story, with a back drop of the beautiful Australian outback. This movie showcased the hidden treasurers found in this part of the world and reminds of us the generations of indiginous peoples that were stolen during the country's conflicts. Acting by both the co-stars was solid - just what you'd expect. Some of the supporting cast gave memorable and thoughtful performances too. The entire audience in the screening I watched was touched by this movie... I just recommend extra popcorn as it runs a little long.

Absolutely Brillant! I went to see this film with my mom, sister and 21 yr old daughter. We all loved it. The story is interesting and well told. Though it is a long film, it did keep our interest. The chemistry between Nicole and Hugh is sizzling. The young boy is brillant too. I waited months to see this, and was not disappointed. My husband and I both really liked this movie. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman were excellent. Scenery was breathtaking. Had no idea of the type of prejudice that was going on in Australia during that time period. Really enjoyed the little boy's acting who played "Nallah." Would recommend it to everyone; we did not think it was too long at all. Will be buying it on DVD when it comes out.

This movie would be worth the price of admission just to see Hugh Jackman in all his glorious male splendor. While Nicole Kidman gave a rather uninspiring performance (or perhaps her character was supposed to be a bit stiff as she played a Brit) the child star in the movie really upstaged them all. While the movie was too long, it was definately entertaining and quite different, and that it why I would recommend you see it.

Really dumb! Very disappointing. Way to long! It's to Indiana Jonesish, not a serious movie. Not even "visually stunning". Don't waste your time or money!!!

A fantastic combination of epic adventure, romance, and a moving tribute to the indigenous people of Australia. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are ravishingly entertaining, as always, but the real highlights of the movie are the young "creamy" boy, Nullah, of mixed Aboriginal & Anglo descent, played by Brandon Walters, and his Aboriginal grandfather King George, played by David Gulpilil. Nullah is positively transcendent, and King George is the epitome of an ancient people's wisdom-bearer. A must see for everyone!

This is the way we used to make the epic... a sweeping canvas, lots of action, a love story, and a kid. I liked the movie, found it visually compelling. But Baz should've trimmed about 15 to 20 minutes. He played every scene, every emotion for what it was worth and more. Sometimes less is more, as it would have been here. Still, it's an impressive movie. I saw it at a full house, big screen, and the audience was glued to the screen, with applause at the end.

Australia absolutely delivers as a sweeping epic tale, a mixture of imaginative fantasy and heartbreaking reality. Shot on location in the Australian outback the cinematography is breathtaking. Hugh Jackman is jaw-droppingly gorgeous as well with the rugged outback as his divine backdrop. Nicole Kidman is superb as always. And Nallah and his Aboriginal Grandfather are magical! They just don't make movies like this anymore.
