How good is the new Star Trek? So good I will call it this summer's Dark Knight right now. Easily better than 2.5 of the Star Wars prequels.
This is how you do it! Great acting- special effects that don't look fake, great action, and no reimagining of the Star Trek concept. But I wouldn't expect anything less from the 1/2 of the Lost team (the greatest show ever.

it was a good action flick, but if you thought you might learn more of the history / back story of the original star trek characters then u are going to be let down. I dont want to say any more because i dont want to give away the story but if u want action and something new from star trek then go see this film.

I'd already had very high expectations going into this movie, but when I'd walked out, even those paled in comparison to the expectations I SHOULD have had.
This movie was, in a word, INCREDIBLE. If I had to choose one character that was better than the rest, I would have to choose Zachary Quinto, the young man who played Spock.
The Spock that all Trekkies know and love is always so stiff. So calm. So logical. But this young man took this logical character and made it his own. Not only was he stiff and logical, but he also showed his human side, no matter how much he tried to hide it.
All in all, I can only BEG JJ Abrams to make another one. And I will be in the best seat in the house: Sixth row, Center, when it comes.

An interesting reboot of Star Trek and a masterful job of casting (the strength of the movie). The story line was very contrived to deliver a new start on the series. Characters were not developed and the second teir characters remained undeveloped, evidently depending on the familiarity from the previous series. But in the end it is an opportunity to take a different direction for the series without all the expectations from the past.

GREAT MOVIE!!! I took my 24 year old son. He liked it also.The references made toward the original television show were great, helped to tie TV show to new movie. Action, some humor and beautiful woman, all a trademarks of James T. Kirk.

This pic as terrific, nice original scenes with technology thought out and well realized, nice jokes back to original series, director and team made it look easy. "There's another ship coming in," and then the Enterprise zooms in guns blazing, this guy doesn't mess around.
We took whole family and three year old loved it.

This is not just a great Star Trek movie, this is a great movie PERIOD. I loved how each one of the original characters gets their time to shine. ILM outdid themselves on this one. J.J. Abrams & Paramount did a fantastic job.

Great casting, good acting, excellent script and well done special effects combine for a terrific movie experience. The pacing was brisk, subtle references to the original series did not distract, and only mildly non-sensical scifi time travel stuff to make you scratch your head. You will enjoy this movie and feel like you got your money's worth.

As a life long Star Trek fan, Ioved the movie. Although some of the history was inaccurate, the casting more than made up for it. The movie held my attention, the interaction between the characters felt like the original and the subplot twists were fun.

This movie gave a much needed jolt to the franchise. Yeah, it re-wrote the Star Trek history a bit, but it explained it well. Great acting, great special effects. This movie never dragged and even though it added youth to the series, it still paid respect to what came before it. I definately recommend it.

I have been a Trek fan for years and I felt this movie had some of the same feel as the original series and subsequent movies. The charactures were true to their original selves except for the Spock/Ohura thing. The only real complaint I have with the movie was that some times the action was blurred or too fast, so you weren't sure what happened. Advances in special effects sure help ad to this type of movie (space/futuristic sci-fi).

This is by far the best Star Trek movie. It introduces the viewer to the personalities of the original Star Trek characters and each actor portrays the personality so well, you'd swear these were the original cast as cadets in the Starfleet! The cinematograpy is excellent, the direction is superb and there are so many pleasant surprises throughout. Now I want to watch and enjoy all the other Star Trek movies over again. This is a very enjoyable film!

As a trekker, I have to say this is as good as the better trek films. I think the "this ain't for trekkie's" folks should shut up. We're already used to "revisionism" in Trek given TNG and afterward. I've seen about every ep of all series, and I enjoyed the movies. The movies have always been less cerebral than the show, and even so, this could have used a little more brain and heart. But on balance, I think it could revive the franchise after the awful Nemesis.
I didn't like that there were no recognizable aliens other than Vulcans and Romulans. Some Andorians, Klingons, Tellurites in the next pic, please.

I am an original Star Trek fan from 1968. I used to watch the series with my Grandfather. I love having the young actors keeping the legend of Kirk, Spock, Mccoy and all the old Characters back in their prime. The movie was pure excitement-fun and in my opinion they really caught the spirit of the Original series. Scotty, with his quick wit, was my favoriate, followed by Spock and Kirk. This is a hit eveyone don't miss it on the big screen. I'm gonna see it at lest 3 weekends in a row........

Too much J.J. Abrams... too little Gene Roddenberry. If you are willing to suspend disbelief, and are just looking to escape for 2 hours, this is the movie for you.
If you are looking for a worthy prequel to one of the most beloved TV and Film franchises of all time, stay away.
The movie tried too hard to be clever, and sprinkle "Easter-eggs" throughout, I felt it was too comedic and sometimes almost "slapstick" to be taken seriously... think "Tribbles" not "Wrath of Kahn".
Acting was OK to good, plot was OK, it just never seemed to "gel" for me. The bifurcated time line allows J.J. Abrams unlimited creative license without ruining the "classic" Star Trek, I just wish he had done more with it.

This is one of the best pre-quels I have ever seen. It kept me interested and the allusiones to the original characters were awesome. I would recommend any Star Trek fan to see this movie...you will love it. I left the theater with a grin on my face.

A rocket blasted roller coaster of a ride! I honestly can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a movie. Star Trek was a faithful rebuild of an old franchise that seemed to have had its last breath. It was painful to watch the last set of movies and to see how far off the path Star Trek had strayed. Going back to the beginning with an updated mindset was refreshing and exhilarating. I felt like a kid again watching these old characters that I had grown up with (I was 10 when it launched on NBC). Kudos to JJ Abrams and crew for providing us with a movie that not only brought back Kirk, Spock and the crew of the Vaunted Enterprise but provided thrills, emotions and a good dose of humor as well.

I was a fan of the original series (yeah, I'm OLD) and I'm here to say that this film stays true to the original concept while updating it for a whole new generation. It's fast-paced with dazzling special effects, great characters who play well together, and a good story line that will hook everyone from the bag boy at Albertson's (who asked me yesterday if I'd ever heard of Star Trek because his family wanted to see the movie and he didn't know what it was) to us old farts who remember not only William Shatner's *cough* unique acting style but most of the plot lines to the original series. It's a great start to what I hope will be a new franchise.

The story line is constantly developing. I sat through the entire movie looking for a place to sneak out and go get a snack. I couldn't find a spot. By the end of the movie, I was glad I never left my seat. Most of the dialog and events are a part of the set-up to the climax of the story. Very well done. My entire family gives it a "thumbs-up."

This movie was great! What a fun ride.
I barely remember the Star Trek movies of my childhood and I never found them appealing, but I did remember the major characters. Loved Leonard Nimoy's appearance in the movie and I'm tempted to rent some of the old ones now...
Great CGI, great actors, and good dialogue. A whole lot of fun! Worth catching on the big screen.

This movie was an awesome remake of the original. It was done in a way that both old fans and new could enjoy. The casting, CGI, and story came together to make a movie pact with sci-fi action and great story telling. A definite must see movie!

Loved Star Trek as a kid in the 60's and then in college when the movies came out. I grit my teeth and learned to love STNG & Deep Space Nine but hated Voyager and Enterprise.
When I heard JJ Abrams was taking over with a new cast, I was apprehensive but confident that he could do it, being a HUGE Lost fan. However, I just couldn't see Chris Pine as Kirk. Previews didn't help.
Right from the first scene, they had me. I couldn't take my eyes away! Terrific FX, great story line. Cast was fabulous from Eric Bana to Zach Quinto (go Sylar!) to Simon Pegg and Anton Yelchin as Chekov and even Chris Pine. Can't wait til it comes out on BluRay!

I was so glad to walk away from the theater so excited and energized having been disappointed on numerous occasions in the past!! I was a little too young to watch the original series when broadcast, but got hooked when it began to be shown in syndication in the 70's. I've never been a dress-up, convention-attender, but have been a faithful fan since then. I thought they came up with a very creative way to open the door on a whole new adventure while keeping many of the elements that attracted us all in the first place! I took my 10 year-old to see it and we both can't wait to add this to our video library and for the next one to released!!

Me and my dad went to this movie expecting and O.K recreation of Star Trek, to find that it was not just about answering almost every question you had watching the original series, it was a movie to be a movie. It had an amazing plot and the new Spock and Kirk are great for the part!

I can understand why hard core Trekkies would not like this movie. The back story was interesting but had some incongruities with the original series. The basic premise of the movie violates the time line paradox. Oh well. Put that aside and the movie was fine. The actors did a fantastic job. The 'Bones' character was spot on. The story was fitting for a Star Trek flick, with a single super villan whose conflicted interested leads to a critical (but stupid) mistake at the end.

I only recently started watching the original Star Trek series and was a little nervous about the movie. Upon seeing it however, I thought it was most excellent. The acting was good, the story line was amazing and the special effects were flawless. It was an excellent movie and I was never bored. I suggest that everyone go see it.
