Well, I'm going to go against most of what I've read about this movie. I watched the original Trek in the 60's and this is nothing like the original. Spock did not have a girl friend, MCcoy was not a goof ball and Kirk was not a skirt chasing womanizer (they chased him). They tried to make this movie entertaining for the "new" generation of Trekkies. But for me it just didn't work. I probably wont even buy it on DVD. A huge disappointment. for me. The kids will love it though.

I liked everything about it and I saw it on IMAX. I was not too familiar with Star Trek but this movie recalled the memories I do have for the show and the other Star Trek movies and I was able to appreciate the story line and history of the show. I like the plot of the movie. It was easy to follow and interesting.

I loved it so much I'm ready to go see it again, and when it comes out on DVD I hope I don't wear it out..LOL. I think they did an outstanding job on finding the younger characters for each one, especially Scotty, Spock, Kirk, Checkof(sp sorry) and outstandingly McCoy! Great story line and I really hope they bring us another one. maybe Shatner will star in this one. GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow. . .are you sure the movie runs just over 2 hours?!?!? Fast pace throughout and finally a return to the basic concept of the original Star Trek. JJ Abrams just revived the series and I look forward to future adventures with this cast.

At 49 i remember the tv star trek. I was not a great fan but i liked it.My girls 13 and 16 knew nothing about star trek and enjoyed the show. I think it will breathe new life to the story

I am a veteran Trekker and actually participated in the original letter writing campaign to Paramount Studios to get Star Trek back. To think that my son (now 29 years old) who, as a child, could not stand anything related to Star Trek gave this a two thumbs up is nothing short of a miracle. He was able to see the complex relationships between the characters that enamored myself and so many others to the original Star Trek, yet also enjoy all of the action. Though I am still reeling from many time travel moments in this movie and puzzling some things out, I plan to solve that problem by seeng it again ASAP. Enjoy!

Having grown up watching most of the Trek franchises I'm glad to see one do so well. On the flip side I was kind of disappointed with some of the liberties taken but I understand that they wanted a clean slate

This movie started off the summer correctly unlike some 3 clawed superheroes...I saw this movie with my entire family for Mother's Day with ages ranging from 45 to 7. Not one person was disappointed. My parents having full knowledge of the original series, were more impressed with the movie then myself and siblings. Great CGI, humor non-stop, and a great tie in with the original series. A must see for any action craving movie goer.

For the first time in 7 years I'm proud to be a Trekkie. J.J did a great job hand picking the cast and crew. Paramount Definitely deserves to own the Star Trek Franchise. Leonard Nimoy was awesome! His role in the film couldn't have been better.

I've never been a Star Trek fan. I used to hate it when it came on. I wondered for years and years how my dad could sit there and be so entertained by the show.I was shocked when I saw the preview because I found myself saying "Hey that looks kinda good". I was amazed. It was a spectacular movie. More than I could have ever imagined. Well worth the time and money spent.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It reminded me of all that was best about Star Trek. I was worried that the movie might not respect the history of Star Trek. That worry did not pan out. Instead, I got an action packed adventure that revived the spirit of the original series and its characters.
I will admit that it was a bit strange to see other actors playing characters that were made iconic by other performers. As a fan I have the characterizations of the original cast etched into my mind. For the most part the new cast does a remarkable job at capturing the essence of the charatcters while making them thier own. Every so often one of them will hit a false note that doesn't seem to fit my memory of the character.
A great movie!!

The acting is excellent, the plot typical Star Trek (with more than the usual holes in the plot logic). But J.J. Abrams is not the director for this franchise. His jumpy, frenetic style never lets you really see the amazing sets and special effects. The fighting scenes are so fast that I had trouble understanding what was going on. Perhaps it's my age.

Having grown up watching reruns of Star Trek, I was really looking forward to this and made my non-Trekkie husband promise to take me for Mother's Day. It totally delivered! I felt I wanted more of the back story (they tease w/ an older Winona Rider which I imagine shot younger shots with a child Spock). Everyone in my family enjoyed it. Hope they have a sequel!

Decent story, lots of action, good acting, and great CGI. It is especially heartening for Star Trek to get back to its roots and original concept of a Western in outer space and away from the Berman/Braga deck of talk, talk, and more talk of the post TOS series. Good job J.J. I only wish they could have found a way for Shatner to be in it.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I found the alternate timeline a good way for the author to take the liberties he did with the story and still preserve the integrity of the original story. The humor and kitschy-ness of the original series was a also a big kick!

Special effects were good, but the plot and acting left something to be desired. I was not impressed overall and would only consider seeing it again for the special effects. The actors were way too pretty an unbelievable as more intelligent beings. Zachary Quinto was probably the most believable out of all the characters and even that was a stretch. If you are looking for a popcorn flick then you will be delighted, otherwise, if you are a LOST or Trekkie...prepare for disappointment.

The new Star Trek will please both fans and
non-fans alike. This film eschews much of the dogma that has bogged down the franchise in recent efforts focusing instead on reintroducing the classic characters that made up the original series while packing plenty of action for mainstream audiences who have neither the attention span nor the patience to wade through the usual scifi laced drama and dialogue.
While the time altering plot line might be confusing on the surface, it makes sense that Abrams would do this so that the characters can be free to develop in whatever way best serves the story. With this effort, Abrams has rejuvenated the Star Trek franchise.

This is a good movie, but no longer in the established ST universe. By ripping apart the space time continuum, Abrams and Co. opened the door to a new world of ST possibilities, unrestrained by Roddenberry's canon. Follow-on Movies, TV shows, etc., now have a host of new options with the same characters from ST:TOS.
Great effects.
One major complaint: I was with the movie right until the end. There is no Navy who is going to promote a cadet directly to Captain (that's a 6 level jump) and give him command of the fleet's flagship, no matter how well he performed in an emergency. While Kirk MkI was the "youngest" captain through accelerated promotions, he still did his time through the ranks and made CAPT when about 40 yrs old.

Wow, what a film! Everything is so well done: the acting, the special effects, the story. Bringing Spock I into the same time frame as Spock II (or is it the other way around?) took a bit of creating imagining, but it all works. The young Kirk looks a bit scrawny relative to the adult, but who cares? I saw the regular version as well as the digital projection Imax version and recommend the Imax, though there is a bit of pixelation in the rapid motion sequences.

This was an excellent very entertaing movie. It stays true to the characters of the original Star Trek charters. It speaks perfectly to how you would imagine a young Kirk and McCoy would be. It is a perfect Prequel and yet if you never folowed the original Star Trek you would find it immensely enteraining and develop a love for the characters. I loved how the director paid homage to the first Star Trek TV episode with the character of Captain Christopher Pike. For die hard Star Trek fans like myself the only thing I had difficulty with was the bald heaeded Romulans. They did not look enough like they were related to Vucans.

Except for the fact that they totally destroyed the timeline for the rest of the Star Trek uinverse, I really loved this movie. It was so well cast, all of the principals were just perfect. They stayed very true to the spirit of the original show. I highly recommend Star Trek. It was action filled and yet the characters were very well developed and recognizable. I especially loved the casting for Spok, Scotty and Kirk. They were dead on. Bottom line, a heck of a good time!

As fan of SciFi movies, I thought that this was a very good movie. As a Star Trek fan I was not satisfied at all. The movie did not follow the time line and that is big problem for me. I would not recommend this movie to a Trekie.
