Boldy going...to an alternate universe

This is a good movie, but no longer in the established ST universe. By ripping apart the space time continuum, Abrams and Co. opened the door to a new world of ST possibilities, unrestrained by Roddenberry's canon. Follow-on Movies, TV shows, etc., now have a host of new options with the same characters from ST:TOS.
Great effects.
One major complaint: I was with the movie right until the end. There is no Navy who is going to promote a cadet directly to Captain (that's a 6 level jump) and give him command of the fleet's flagship, no matter how well he performed in an emergency. While Kirk MkI was the "youngest" captain through accelerated promotions, he still did his time through the ranks and made CAPT when about 40 yrs old.
