I went to Europe with my parents in the summer of 1980 and found the Tintin books. I was transfixed. This movie more than measures up to my experience of those books. The story was great and full of action and adventure. The characters all stayed true to Herge. It was interesting to hear actual voices instead of the ones I had imagined. Most of the characters were well animated. My only quibble was that at times some of the facial expressions were too stiff as is the tendancy with this type of animation. The 3D was good. Probably the best I have seen since Avatar but not really needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It reminded me of all that was best about Star Trek. I was worried that the movie might not respect the history of Star Trek. That worry did not pan out. Instead, I got an action packed adventure that revived the spirit of the original series and its characters.
I will admit that it was a bit strange to see other actors playing characters that were made iconic by other performers. As a fan I have the characterizations of the original cast etched into my mind. For the most part the new cast does a remarkable job at capturing the essence of the charatcters while making them thier own. Every so often one of them will hit a false note that doesn't seem to fit my memory of the character.
