Emotionally gripping story. Excellent acting. I was in Family Circle at the Met on 2/24/2007 and did not know this was a Live in HD performance at the time. The letter scene was awesome. Spare sets but period costumes and minimal furnishings completely transport one to that era. I could not take my eyes off this production in the Met, on the re-broadcast on PBS and in the theater on 7/07/10. I just hope the Met does not try to modernize this gorgeous version and turn it into some perverse disaster like they did Tosca. A must see! No complaints.

The Randolph Showcase Cinema was unable to present this production blaming some unknown provider. But as you can see the broadcast was enjoyed in many theaters. The production of Aida was also marked by interruptions and omission of scenes like the grand March. Even tho Romeo and Juliet went well, a restart was required. It is not possible to find an accountable person in this organization.

The title says it. It was my fifth live Onegin. Washington (2), Kiev (1), Covent Garden (1). It was a smart and forceful production, the best of them. Musical intensity and singing of the first order.
The theatrical values were self evident throughout, the unity of place is strongly drawn in every scene with sparse and very smart settings.
Camera work, close cropping and editing made for compelling cinema. It became an exponent of a new "genre". Everyone in the cast was exceptional.

Not as good as being actually in the audience at the Met, but the next best thing! Excellent performances all around, and it was fascinating to see the facial expressions on the soloists -- something you miss if the only tickets you can normally afford are in the Balcony section. The backstage glimpses were fun, and I'm looking forward to going to some of the actual live HD broadcasts in the fall. A good way for newbies to discover opera without spending a fortune.

My husband and I were at the White Plains theater and we both enjoyed this broadcast immensely. No problems with the technical aspect. Movie went off without a hitch. The opera itself is truly a beautiful piece. The singing and acting were breathtaking and the final scene was outstanding. Renee Fleming and Dmitrii Hvorostovsky were superb. So glad that the Met is doing these kinds of shows. Brava Renee and Brava Peter Gelb for his visions!!

This is an wonderful production of "Onegin," with Hvorostovsky and Fleming at their best. The sound quality at the Hoffman AMC theater in Alexandria VA was excellent. This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of opera.

this Eugene Onegin production had great singers, wonderful costumes, just the stage was a little too spartan for my taste, but you get used to it after a while.
The Ritz Theatre in Voorhees had a problem with not turning off the theatre lights when the film started. Several people from the audience went outside to get somebody to turn it off - it took quite a while. Also the sound was a bit too loud.

OK, so it was 90+ degrees outside, that is no excuse for it to be 60 or lower inside. Everyone was shivering and complaining, but pleas to the manager were of no avail.
I think we were disappointed that this was a 2007 performance. Somehow I had thought the encore performances were for recent seasons. The production was from 1997! For a New Yorker that is not up-to-date!
The audience was expecting an Intermission. 2 1/2 hours without a break is a lot. Though, because of the cold, I probably would have left the theater.
The performance and the film were first-rate, but the situational elements were a definite downer.

Thanks to Kathy our host and a bright audience member for explaining to the AMC Hamilton NJ staff how to run the Oengin relay - last week it took 38 annoying minutes to get to Romeo.
Hard struck for next season...Hamilton late to commit and inept, New Brusnwick very red tint (consistently and obvious) in main Theater 1, Neshaminy unbearably loud. None seem to get the lights right. No standards!

At the Showcase Cinema in Randolph, MA, it was impossible to hear the movie. The scenes froze at times. Everybody left after 15 minutes...a complete disaster. Is it a problem with the theater or a problem with the feed from the Met? IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

E.O. is one of the few recent productions at the Met that I have not experienced live. It was a special treat, therefore, to experience the HD presentation. It is an outstanding production, thanks of course first to the composer, the librettist, and the source material. The performing artists are worthy of the work's creators. Fleming and Hvorostovsky are superb singers and among today's stage's great actors. Ditto Gerghiev, orchestra, supporting cast, chorus, ballet, and economical production!

No complaint about the movie itself, but bad news technically -- and likely the fault of the Met Opera. At the Showcase Cinemas Randolph, MA ,the sound was intermittent (mostly absent) and the visual component periodically froze momentarily as well, but not even at the same time as the break up of the sound -- a complete disaster, calling for refunds. The one positive aspect was the smoothness and imperturbability of the woman who was manager at the service desk at the time -- she dealt with even the most impossible, outraged and demanding customer with honesty, warmth and true aplomb. Only that made the aborted trip worthwhile.

Outstanding opera. Renee and Dmitri were magnificent--handsome, beautiful, passionate, and 2 of the world's best voices. The final scene takes your breath away.

Singing was wonderful. As usual at this theater, however, there were problems with the facilities and equipment. The house was almost full, though many members of the audience arrived late. Until the matter was forced, there was no usher available, and late arrivals (many of whom were elderly) had to stumble around in the dark. Furthermore, I had to interrupt my own viewing in order to answer questions of stumbling audience members. For shame! As for the HD equipment, there were times when the singers' voices were out of sync with their facial and lip movements.

The singers' performances are stellar and the orchestra sounds amazing. I would go see it again myself, if that were an option. I do recommend planning ahead on 2 points: first, the opening half hour of the opera feels aimless and there's little traction for the listener until the Letter Scene; and second, the Summer Encore broadcasts run the opera straight through, with no intermissions or behind-the-scenes footage, so definitely plan accordingly.

The quality of this MET ENCORE for EUGENE ONEGIN was PAINFUL!!!! The sound was a disaster!!! You had to strain your eyes to see as the imagery was ridiculously DARK!!! I felt as though I was listening through pea soup and watching through a dark screen!!!
