The strongest thing about this movie (since we all know the outcome!) was the quality of the acting. Diane Lane was just outstanding. John Malkovich demonstrated vividly the personality of his character. The actual showing of the real Preakness "on TV" was very original and lent authenticity to the movie. All the supporting roles were very well done.

I used to work in the thoroughbred industry and this brought back a lot of memories of , arguably, the greatest Thoughbred of all time. His 31 length victory in the Belmont is legendary, to say the least. Great family entertainment. Loved the biblical references.

I was surprised when my 5 & 7 year olds asked me to go see. I am glad they did. What a wondeful family movie! My son was cheering "Go Secretariat Go". There were several times that the audience broke into applause. It was a nice throwback in time to an amazing set of events.

This is a wonderful true story that is a great example of overcoming adversity with true love, determination, perseverance and hard work. Lots of funny moments and amazing sound and visual effects. Excellent casting. What a terrific film for the whole family. The showing we went to received a standing ovation during the end credits. We will certainly be buying the DVD as soon as it becomes available.

I loved this movie. Even though I knew the story I was still excited when the races were run. I also found the back story of the family very interesting. The family story was not as well known as Secretariat's story. Great job on this movie.

A private screening on Halloween night [just happened to be alone in the theater] lead to freedom to laugh and cry out loud - plenty of opportunities for each in the crisp script - so well performed by the principle actors.
Cinematography from every perspective of view yielded race sequences that had my heart pumping in rhythm at every turn and straightaway.
Composite characters were well constructed, making for an even-flowing storyline, free of confusing over-detail backstory.
Including *The Book of Job Scripture* and *O, Happy Day* recording prominently and timely, underscored the strong emotional strength and thanksgiving of each character bringing Big Red along in his journey.
During the thunder-race sequences, the soundtrack music was replaced in my mind by John Stewart's "thunderous" ode to Big Red: *Let the Big Horse Run* But, that's a personal Remember . . .
Catch the 'Wall of Noise' fever! *Secretariat* is as close to "being there" as a person can get . . . and I *was* there

I am a horse lover and now a rider and I remember the races from 1973 and STILL found myself sitting on the edge of my seat!! I thought Disney, once again, did an excellent job in telling a wonderful story.

My husband and I anticipated a very good movie; and we were not disappointed. The cast was well selected to portray the real-life story. Editors, producers and all involved did an excellent job on the production. Even though we knew the outcome of each race, we found ourselves on the edge of our seats in anticipation of the outcomes! We did not know the family story of Secretariat's owners, so that was very interesting, providing a great lesson in persistently pursuing one's dream.

I have seen horse racing movies before but this was probably the best one I have seen yet. It is nice to go to a movie that is well written and superbly acted without relying upon special effects or cgi enhancement. The movie is more than anything a character sketch about not giving up even when the odds are against you and the rest of the world is telling you to give up on your dream. Diane Lane is great in the movie and John Malkovich is fantastic. It was also nice to see a quality movie that is not laced with violence, profanity, and sex. I would recommend this movie to anyone regardless of your movie watching habits.

We so enjoyed this movie and can and do recommend it to anyone -- even a family with children (and that is a rare thing these days). When you know in advance how the story ends, but you still find yourself with butterflies in your stomach, sitting forward in your seat, and in your mind cheering for both Big Red and Penny, then you know that it is a job well done. Likely a movie that I will add to my DVD library.

Our family of four, the children are in their 20s, all loved it. I loved the spirit of determination & tenacity shown by Penny and Secretariat. Though Penny's husband appeared unsupportive, he showed strength by being there and sharing with her lessons he had learned from the experience . It had great casting. A true story worth telling and watching over an over again. Great family movie...no violence, cursing or sex which are unnecessary to portray the true essence of a story.

I wasn't really excited about seeing the movie (it was the only one playing that I hadn't seen that wasn't cartoon-charactered or horror!). But I'm so glad I did! The film was moving and beautifully acted by an excellent cast. I found myself (with the rest of the audience) cheeering for Big Red, even though, of course, we all knew the ending! And, not to give anything away, the cameo of a very important person made the movie even more poignant.

We're third generation race horse people so I was very excited to see and support this movie. Have rarely been as embarrassed for Disney. Trys to give a positive message and garbles more than one message about being a housewife and loyalty to dreams and family. On top of that, the ending might as well have been filmed by Trinity Broadcast Christian Network. I was heartbroken that the ending of the movie was so Christian based when it had NOTHING to do with the plot. Took my jewish neighbors children and felt like I had betrayed them. Perhaps Disney is catering to the Christian's in America as a money-maker but at least put in a disclaimer to give token respect to other religious beliefs. Please skip this movie and rent Dreamer - same wonderful horse story, beautiful music and scenery, easy to follow values and less religious hype stuffed in at the end. Let's hope somebody does an honest remake of this wonderful story that is worth paying money to see.

I saw this race live on television, and in my opinion, it was the greatest sports feat in the history of sports. And, at 61 years old, I have seen many. The movie was very, very good and I liked the way they told the history of the horse and the owner leading up to the Belmont Stakes. The race scenes were very good. But, if I had to make one criticism, it would be their portrayal of the final race of the Triple Crown. I really hoped that they would either show origninal clips of the race, or recreate it for us. Instead they called much of it and you didn't get to see the scenes that live with me to this day. To see Secretariat breaking away from the pack at the end of the backstretch was unbelieveable. And, the scene that sends chills down my spine to this day, where the camera panned out to show Secretariat running alone down the home stretch, was missing. View the original clip of the race and make your own judgment. Outside of that, I would highly recommend this movie.

A very solid, well-acted film from Disney. Since everyone knows how it ends, this movie was about the story of getting there. The character development and pace of the movie was reminiscent of the films from the 70's--a refreshing change from the fast pace of most films. Only two items I take issue with: first, the non-race facts were wrong (see Wikipedia) and, second, they didn't spend enough time on the relationship between the owner and the horse. That said, the racing parts were top-notch! This will make a nice rental.

This movie was such a great feel good movie and very encouaging to women especially in that time period, really a must see I would not recomend taking the kids as they might not know the history of this great horse and could find it boring but a great date movie for adults!!!

I was really looking forward to this movie as the viewer reviews were so positive. Plus I watched Secretariat win these races many years ago.
I was dissapointed with it..I felt it moved very slowly and I was almost wishing it would be over. I had two 11 years olds with me and I was concerned they were getting bored. The racing scenes were exciting and really the best parts in the movie. My suggestion would be to wait til it hits OnDemand.
