The Met is always superb, but breaks in transmission left me cool toward this experience. Other suggestion: close-ups are REALLY close on the big screen. Try backing off a bit. Opera is a stage production - - best if the stage is a bit more visible. Also, the Zefferelli production was a bit over the top. More is not always better

It would be 5* were it not for the very annoying technical flaws. I will go again because there is no substitute, but I hope the problems can be cleared up. I read that some attendees were given free tickets to another show to compensate -- I was not offered any such thing.

The movie should have been fabulous but the frequent breaks in transmission were very annoying. However, kudos to whomever it was who decided to give us all re-entry tickets to enjoy another opera presentation or any future movie at the theater. That was great.

The breaks in the feed took a lot away from the performance for us. Lots of moans and groans from those in the packed theatre.
This is the third season we have gone to the Met this way. Most performances are flawless in the feed, but this one left a lot to be desired.
We have purchased tickets to all remaining performances and we hope this problem does not resurface.

In spite of a good performance by cast and orchestra, the technical glitches made it difficult to watch. I had raved to friends about the fantastic production they were about to experience. The sound glitches made it almost unbearable.
The transmission of the visuals was extremely poor. I own the DVD of a 1988 Met Opera production which I reviewed again upon returning home. Amazing how much was lost in the HD transmission. Dark, muddy, with lack of clarity compared with the stunning DVD production made this a major disappointment!

Wonderful, wonderful, terrible plot, but wonderful.....except the video / sound interruptions (packet drops?) were very upsetting and there was no sense of ownership of the problem on part of the distribution company or theater. An offer of a 1/2 price ticket to a future opera would have appropriate.
Am a season ticket holder, this is first time the system was overwhelmed.

This was my first time seeing the HD simulcast of the Met. I was absolutly enthralled by the entire performance. The music, the talet, the sets...it was suprised how it all just held your attention for the entire performance. Yes, there were some transmission problems, and they were a little annoying, but I didn't let it ruin my experience. I have to hand it to the theater managment for doing what they could to make it up to the customers. I look forward to seeing may more of the Met simulcasts.

Turandot: Singers first class, good old Zeffirelli sets appropriately over-the-top for a cruel fairy tale.
Transmission lousy--no corrections made during the performance, no explanation given.
Movie exhibitors evidently do not appreciate the seat-selling ability of the opera, and so fail to pay attention to quality.

Well, the Met performance was superb. The singing and performances were outstanding. Liu was the show-stealer. She is incredible! And to see this production so up-close and personal was amazing. The intermission interviews were a nice touch, too. The HD telecast, however, left a lot to be desired. There were numerous drop-outs throughout the show that really detracted from the whole experience. Understandably video feed like this is problematic, but you'd think they'd have the glitches ironed out by now. Weather conditions, satellite feed, etc. are problems, but why doesn't HD at home act accordingly? The video service needs to get their act together.

This was my first time seeing Turandot. I know it was Puccini's last opera - not my favorite but glad I saw it. The theatre had many technical pauses which made it hard to stay in the mood and enjoy the experience. I've gone to 3 so far this season at this theatre where there were no problems. It won't stop me from seeing one again that's for sure. Can't wait to see Carmen!.

The MET did a great a superlative job.
AMC theater 104 and CO 36 did almost everything they could do to ruin the memorable performances.
They said it was sold out, 20+ seats remained empty and they turned folks away. Libretto delivered 5 minutes prior to curtain. HD challenges, missed the first and second riddle, very sad. Late on raising the house lights for intermission, both times... I will try this gig again, not sure at this site

This was my first experience with Live Met at the theater, and it was also my wife's first opera. The performances were very good, Liu and Calaf were excellent, Turandot, less so.
The frequent signal loss was very disturbing. I don't no what transmission set up is used, but it sure be much more dependable. I spoke with another patron who has attended a number of these and he said the technical aspect is usually much better, but I think it should always be better.
It was nice to be in a theater again without people playing with their cell phones. It was the most well mannered audience I have seen in may years. Bravo to you!

This was a wonderful performance of a repertory staple. Having seen this production in NYC numerous times when I was living there, I was surprised to see how dim the picture appeared. The singers, however, were sensational. Not only was Marina Poplaskaya (sp?) a moving revelation as Liu, but Maria Guleghina as Turandot was the finest I've heard since Birgit Nilsson, with a voice of powerful intensity. Even though this was electronically delivered, the size of her voice came through. Our hero was Marcello Giordani, one of the most reliable singing today. If the transmissions glitches drove you out of the live performance, I urge you to go back, see the encore performance; certainly the electronic problems will have been fixed by then.

Marina Poplaskaya's Liu was terrific. The best I've heard in a long time.

Going to see the Met at a movie theatre is a wonderful option EXCEPT when the sound continuosly cuts out for blocks of 1 to 5 seconds. This is extremely distracting and we were forced to get a refund. I did not think the production was up to the standard set by the MetHD on other occasions with the picture being too dark and too frequent cuts around the stage.

For opera fans or fans-to-be, the Simulcasts from New York are wonderful. This one had transmission problems, but I'm sure that will be fixed.
Puccini's Turandot as set by Zeferelli is a huge fantasy. It was hard for the director to show us the singers in close-up yet pull beck to orient them in a huge, elaborate staging. Costuming was great, choreography of motion around the complex stage was great.
I thought the singer playing Turandot was not of the quality as the singer playing Liu. Liu was so well done and so much pianissimo to manage. Tenor hero was fine.
A couple of old men were fine too.

The Met production was excellent (five stars). However, the HD presentation had issues. There were occasional broadcast hiccups (signal cutting out for 0.5-2sec), and the director was determined to show the singers' tonsils with his zooms. I recommend seeing it live instead of in the theater -- but if you're on a budget, $24 is a lot more affordable than $200!!!

I'm a fan of Live In HD opera, and this is a great opera, but technical problems diminished the experience. Both the sound and the picture cut out at various points. Since I've done this before, I recognized it was an aberration. But first time users may be put off. Transmission must be perfect.
Also, the quality of the picture was washed out. One woman in the audience even asked why it was in black and white.
Still, it was a great experience, and I will do it again.

Live opera at the movies places an otherwise and wrong connotation of an inaccessable art form (opera) in a mundane venue (movie theatre). I can't think of a better way for those unfamiliar with opera to appreciate it, up close and personal, so to speak. "Turandot," not only being an excellent production (with some sound glitches to be fixed), is one for the masses, for those who have not yet experienced opera. Puccini plus romance (well, that's redundant) plus lavish settings plus "Nessun Dorma" can easily break down the walls of those who insist that opera is not for them. Ahh, but it is.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
