I am a 50 something that has loved science fiction my whole life. From the Golden Age of the 30's and 40's to the present. I thought a new idea,concept was almost gone from the genre but James Cameron went over the top with AVATAR.
I have seen it 4 times in regular 3D, twice in flat screen and last night went to see the IMAX 3D version. I was not disappointed. If you haven't seen it, go. If you have, go again.

I was hesitant about seeing this movie but I was so glad I did. It has everything in it for a perfect blend, action, comedy and a love story. I was in awe of the special effects and was so glad we saw it in 3D IMAX. You really get into this story. You want to defend the underdog, celebrate the victories and at times just drool over the scenery. I will see this again, and add to my home collection once out on DVD. Everyone will LOVE this!

This was my 3rd time seeing the movie, everything good that can be said about the movie has been said. People who hate on the movie will do so regardless of what Cameron does. Wonderful visuals, wonderful and straightforward storyline so you dont have to spend every minute explaining to your child what's going on. Go see it on IMAX! No other way!!!

Pretty good. Special effects were great- everything felt very real. Liked the main guy and girl. A little violent and 3-D gave me a headache, but most people will really like it, so I would recommend it. Next time we're seeing a chick flick though. :)

Wanted to see the movie but was not thrilled with the fact it was 2 hours and 40 minutes long. But once you are swept away into the picture the time passes quickly. The imax 3D was incredible. Other 3D features I saw, which were mostly with my grandkids, were just little things like items thrown towards your face, but this movie put you right there into it. The movie itself was excellent. Brought up emotions of anger, sadness, joy,wonder, and fascination. Would go see it again.

This movie really strived to immerse the audience in another world, in every way imaginable. The special effects are tremendous, and the storyline, while simple at times, was straightforward and succeeded where it needed to succeed. Most people will be carried away, including younger family members. My daughter started to discuss 'the evolution of the blue cat people', which was worth the price of admission itself.
The only problem was the difficulty in getting IMAX tickets; after three sold-out weekends, I decided to take last Friday off work, and I could only buy the Friday matinee tickets the previous Wednesday evening, which made it difficult to plan the rest of the weekend.

Overall I really enjoyed the movie, story line and effects. I felt the plot line was very predictable though, almost from the very start. The only other real complaint I had was that the movie was filled with obvious negative political statements about our U.S. Military. Phrases like "We'll fight terror with terror," along with a diagram in the shape of the Pentagon on a map of attack, were so overt as to be laughable. It makes the clear point that James Cameron isn't a fan of our military and foreign policy. If you can put aside all of that and just enjoy the movie for entertainment value and special effects, you'll enjoy yourself.

Going in, I expected to see an entertaining SciFi/fantasy flick. Being a true SciFi aficionado since I was a small girl, it takes a lot to impress me. I had no idea what was in store. The visual effects are so stunning I have not yet been able to get them out of my mind. The plot is somewhat cliche, but the premise and details of the biology of Pandora and future human technology were so well-done that I was simply awestruck. In my mind, it is right up there with the original Star Wars movies.

AVATAR is, basically, DANCES WITH WOLVES with blue people and flying dragons, set on an alien planet in the future. Pretty unoriginal as far as plotline. The special effects are fun, but seeing it in 3-D is totally unnecessary. The IMAX screen is a good touch but, yeah ... 3-D is a waste.

Being a Science Fiction fan. And loving Special Effects. I planned to go See James Cameron's AVATAR anyway.
But, I had the opportunity to take 2 of my GrandSons to see Avatar3D in IMAX.
Wow! FIrst of all, the improvements in 3D over the old Red & Blue versions we saw as kids is excellent. When Sam Worthington's Avatar character walked up to the edge of the cliff where the dragon-like characters were and looked down...I had a deathgrip on the armrests of my seat trying not to fall over the edge. Secondly, it made you feel like you were standing there beside the characters whether flying thru the air or sitting under the tree of life in the forrest.
I love SciFi and Good special effects. But this movie left me breathless.........

Visually stunning at first, but the colors are so cartoon-like and intense that it becomes wearisome. The story is a lame pastiche of every movie cliche ever, although very slickly packaged. The movie's value, and why it is worth seeing, is as a road sign to the future merging, and possibilities, of 3D and CGI. It left this viewer a bit queasy from the story, but very impressed with the technique. Brace yourself, especially if you see it in IMAX.

You have heard all the hype. The effects in this movie are ok. The Avatars are amazing, the hallelujah mountains are breathtaking but the fiber optic effects are a little un 2054. They are more like Disney's Light Magic parade from the nineties. The concept of humans inhabiting other bodies is very original and captivating but the political overtones are a bit much.

Yesterday was the 2nd time to see Avatar but the 1st time in IMAX 3-D. WOW...a wonderful experience and the WAY to see it if offered in a theater in your area. Regular 3-D not a bad second choice. Bottomline: this is a must SEE movie!

The 3D experience is the only way to go with this movie (as far as I am concerned). It is incredible! In some ways the switching from reality to avatar reminds me of the Matrix movies. I hope to see more of these 3D creations in the future. Can't get that on my large screen TV (yet, anyway.)

Although the plot was not original (reminded me of Dancing With Wolves and a few other American Indian stories), I enjoyed Avatar and have recommended it to family and friends. They will all go see it, because I rarely, if ever recommend any movie. They were surprised to hear my recommendation. The sound effects were way overdone and much too loud.
The 3D wasn't as good as the 3D movies I remember from my youth.
I have stopped going out to the theaters to enjoy a movie, because the audio is unbearable. My ears can not take the loud sound, and the "noise" takes away from the movie.
I wonder how much revenue is being lost for the Film industry, as I am not the only one who feels this way.

Loved every minute of this movie, didn't seem like almost 3 hours, just flew by.
3D effects put you there. Just had to see at IMAX, worth the extra cost to be enclosed in the movie instead of just seeing it.

James Cameron outdid himself on this incredible work of art! The IMAX experience combined with the over-the-top CGI, wild action sequences, and heartfelt theme so relevant to humans today, make this one of the most intense movie experiences ever. For reference, I saw Star Wars in the theaters during the original release, which was a defining moment in film making. Avatar rivals that impact, and you owe it to yourself to see this amazing film.
And I’m DEFINITELY going again!

Avatar is a feast for the eyes and ears. I'm used to great surround/sound mixes, but a treat for the eyes is rare.
The IMAX 3-D experience adds depth and definition and life to a movie that is extraordinarily beautiful, colorful, and just plain sexy.
Acting is amazing. Sigourney Weaver, need I say more?
AWESOME AWESOME!!! I've seen it 2x, and will see it again. I couldn't believe how much EVEN better it was the 2nd time around!!!

My score really relates to the 3D presentation. The movie itself is good, but not great. The story is derivative - you've seen it a hundred times before. The special effects are amazing and the real reson for seeing the movie. Whilst the 3D effects sometimes added to the movie, overall I found them distracting. In particular, only a small part of the screen is in focus at any one time, the part that has the main action going on, where the director wants you to focus. But with an imaginary landscape so lush and amazing, my eyes wanted to wander away form the main action and look at other parts of the scene, the backdrop in the woods, some creature off to one side, etc. But when I did, they would be maddeningly out of focus.
