Skip the 3D (Part 1)

My score really relates to the 3D presentation. The movie itself is good, but not great. The story is derivative - you've seen it a hundred times before. The special effects are amazing and the real reson for seeing the movie. Whilst the 3D effects sometimes added to the movie, overall I found them distracting. In particular, only a small part of the screen is in focus at any one time, the part that has the main action going on, where the director wants you to focus. But with an imaginary landscape so lush and amazing, my eyes wanted to wander away form the main action and look at other parts of the scene, the backdrop in the woods, some creature off to one side, etc. But when I did, they would be maddeningly out of focus.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
