A magnificent performance by first-rate artists was made even better by the presentation. The camera is on the stage with the singers, and moves around very creatively to focus the viewer's attention, mostly in the right places. And at intermission the camera roams around the stage so that the viewer can watch the set change, which is just fascinating, and catches Placido Domingo (in this case) interviewing the singers as they come off the stage. The sound system was good, the HD stunning without being intrusive. Really great way to catch the Met if you happen not to be in New York!
Visually stunning at first, but the colors are so cartoon-like and intense that it becomes wearisome. The story is a lame pastiche of every movie cliche ever, although very slickly packaged. The movie's value, and why it is worth seeing, is as a road sign to the future merging, and possibilities, of 3D and CGI. It left this viewer a bit queasy from the story, but very impressed with the technique. Brace yourself, especially if you see it in IMAX.
