I was a little sceptic. My husband convinced me to go. Great movie. The special effects and action scenes where phenomenal. The plot was really engaging. For those who follow the originals series, this will be a treat. I could have done without the bedroom scene, but it seems that nowadays it has become a staple for almost every movie. Overall, it is a must for the home library.

I watched all of the star treck movies and the tv episodes but this movie by far has been one of the best especially in IMAX. I have very few words for this movie its so great my vocabulary wont know what extreme words to say. when spock came out from that cave i got the chills lol that movie keeps you on your seat because you dont want to lose a moment of its majesty. i literally had to go to the rest room but i waited the whole 3 hours (its one hour of previews) until it ended because you never know when the previews are oing to end.

I've watch Star Trek all my life. My dad and I used towatch it when I was younger. So to say that my expectations where high was a bit of an understatement.
When the movie was over I almost cried because it was so good. The storyline was great and the graphic where AMAZING!! If you have a chance to see this movie in IMAX DO IT!! You won't be sorry!

After 10 movies, and four series not including the animated one, the Star Trek people have completely reinvented trek. - Granted the enterprise now looks like an Apple store, but the effects are cool, the characters likable, the chemistry good, and the action constant.
This is not your father's Star Trek.
Using alternate realities to do away with re-telling the story as we know it, it is clever, fun and the characterization of BONES- understated but impressive.
See it on the big screen.- IMAX if you can.

First off, I loved the movie. I saw it the first time in a regular theater. I wanted to go for the IMAX Experience, but was sorely disappointed. The width of the screen was no bigger than any other multiplex theater. It was about twice the height, though. So I thought it would be ok. But then the movie started and it was letterboxed! That made the actually viewing area the same as any other theater. What was I charged extra for? I will never go to IMAX again to see a movie not specifically filmed in IMAX. Its a ripoff.

I'm only a sort of casual Trekkie, but I really enjoyed this movie a lot. I think the biggest surprise for me was the guy from "Harold and Kumar" playing a very respectable Sulu. This was my second time seeing it and I think I liked it better the second time, since I could understand some of the earlier parts better. The difference between regular and IMAX was pretty minimal, at least in this theater--they had letterboxed the IMAX screen down to a normal aspect ratio.

Having grown up with the original series, I was hoping for more Shatneresque mannerisms by Chris Pine, but he did kind of arrive there at the end. I thought Karl Urban's "Bones" was spot on. He stole some scenes. Simon Pegg was hilarious and awesome as usual. John Cho's Zulu was baddass. Zoe Saldana as Uhura was very watchable. She brought a classy touch to the role and of course her body is smokin'. A Star Geek's dream.
J.J. Abrams gets two thumbs up. I gave this movie four stars for now, but over time I'll probably add that fifth star for sentimental reasons. And - if i see this movie a dozen more times, I'll probably pick up on a hundred things I missed in the first viewing. Run, don't walk to see this one.

This was an awesome movie-going experience. The special effects and sound were beyond compare. The acting was great, and they really captured the roles of the old crew very well. And even the gimmicks worked well. Thanks to the "elder" Spock for putting in an appearance--although he can't really pull off being a galactic guru/Master of Reality anymore. I think they really took Star Trek "where no movie has gone before." I don't think they can do much more with it after this one--but they did a fantastic job! Thank you, Gene Rodenberry.

I watched Star Trek in the 60's, the new crew is better and more exciting. I have seen this movie twice on IMAX, and will see it again. Great characters, exciting acting, awesome story, unbelievable special effects, and a must see movie. The best movies I've ever seen. I have all the Star Trek movies. Definitely see this in IMAX! At some points, I could feel the vibration from the sound under my feet. The actors did a good job of channeling the essence of their characters: Kirk's dramatic pauses, Spock's eyebrow raises, etc. The action was amazing and it was truly made by someone who loves & respects the series -- but is willing to take chances. I would expect nothing less from J.J. Abrams! Some others noted the inaccuracies such as the fate of Spock's family members & Captain Pike. Without giving too much away to those who have not seen it, I think we have to remember the circumstances under which the action takes place. Things are not always how they really should be -- which adds to the mystique of the film.

Overall the casting for the rolls was excellent. The plot was very good. The special effects were excellent except on thing. They used excessive spinning motion. It almost became a distraction. "The Imax Experience" is great!

Gotta give the writers alot of credit on this one. Growing up watching the original show, there was enough to establish characters & how they get together in this version. Didn't like what happened to Spok's mother, but it gave him the chance to hear Sarek speak to him with love & respect at a young age (which would not have happened otherwise). Did everyone catch the fact that the character parachuting down with Sulu & Kirk was wearing a RED shirt? Nice added touch for Trek fans... All in all, lots of action, special effects, & alot of fun to watch!!!

Ok, as a homage to the original series/characters I'd say it was very good. They took too many liberties with the original story line,(if you go by the series) and the ending where Spock met Spock just didn't/couldn't make sense....in any reality. It was a fun action movie but I expected more.....and the IMAX EXPERIENCE is over priced and overated....IMHO.

Simply one of the best movies I've ever seen. Gene Roddenberry was my father's first cousin (my grandmother's sister's son) and he would have been absolutely thrilled with this adaptation of the original Star Trek. Unbelievable special effects, great casting, good plot. This movie has it all.

I've seen all the star trek movies.There were changes to the story line that I didn't like. I really didn't like Uhura being involved with spock. Or spocks mothers death. So many changes when you already know the old story line. But it was an enjoyable time watching the movie.

Great iMax experience. Fantastic special effects, great sound, beautiful people and consistent action. The plot moved along at a quick pace. Some of the plot lines are ridiculous, so you have to suspend disbelief. But so what? It's sci-fi. It's a good evenining out.

OK, I may be a bit biased (being a Trek fan), but this movie absolutely rocked! The script was flawless. The action was non-stop. It had comedy. It had drama.The actors brought to life characters that we've loved for over a quarter-of-a-century.
Even if you aren't a fan of Trek - you'll still love this movie - for the same reasons listed above: the writing, the acting, the imagery, the heart-felt drama. You'll laugh, you'll feel their pain and anger, and you'll grow to care about these characters (who aren't that bad on the eyes, either).
Bottom line: Get out there and see THIS movie!!! Three times, if possible.

Have seen all the Star Trek movies. But it was the first IMAX movie I've seen. Great movie loved all the action and seeing it in IMAX made you feel like you were part of it. I would definitely recommend it.

I am not a person to see a movie more than once but Star Trek is the exception. J.J. Abrams has done an outstanding job in putting his spin on the classic Star Trek but also retaining some of the familiar settings and characters that many have grown up to enjoy. I can't wait for the next Star Trek Sequel.

The Good: Lots of fun. Very fast paced. Kirk, Spock, Uhura are excellent. By the end, you'll like all of the new crew and the new Enterprise. Visually stunning. IMAX rocked. The Bad: Romulan nemesis was a little underdeveloped and could 've used a little more screen time. The story is a little too heavy on the fiction and very light on the science. Big items are sort of glossed over and you end up asking yourself "where did that come from?" occasionally. The music from the 3rd trailer was great, but was no where to be found in the movie. The actual soundtrack was a little loud and didn't really go with some of the scenes.
Overall: I'd see it again :-)

The beginning of an old story that hasn't happened yet. JJ Abrams will have us all on he edge of our seats as he repairs the time line over the next 5 years.
