The movie, "Julie and Julia" is such a wonderful one: love stories, food, clothes, including Dorothy's silk dress at the party when she met her intended. I had the same one is a lighter color. Ahhh, the 50's.
Although I gave my "Julia" and Larousse Gastronomique to friends who are making better use of them , I still miss them. I still have the original Gourmet Cook Book which Del bought for me used, even though I don't use it much.
Vera, who had been a dietician, also thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Who has ever seen her when she didn't thoroughly enjoy the moment? She'll be 90 early in October!!!

Really enjoyed the acting in this movie! The story line was excellently done with some of the most hilarious situations that would make you just laugh out loud.
*The only disappointment I had was not in the movie but of the real story that goes along with the story being told in the movie.

Meryl Streep is brilliant-- as usual. Amy Adams is also terrific. Husbands in the supporting roles- Stanley Tucci and ?? are also good. Both stories are very thin and could not have sustained movies on their own.

I just loved this movie. Rarely do I wait with anticipation for a movie, but we planned this from the get go of the early ads. It did not disapoint and made me teary eyed many times. We were 3 generations watching AND loving both characters. Go see!!!

This was an excellent 'date night' movie for my wife and I! Meryl Streep brought Julia back to life and was awesome as always! Stanley Tucci turned in another awesome performance. Amy Adams was great but was overshadowed by Streep and Tucci. We are waiting for it to come out on DVD!

Very good film! After watching and reading weak reviews, we went with low expectations, just to see Meryl Streep and also because Julia Child was a favorite old T.V. show memory. Streep played her perfectly-- with all her love of French cuisine and her quirky rough edges too. The Julie story was a terrific angle to retell an old tale; blogging, a new love story, and good acting from all the cast, especially Tucci and Adams. It's a pleasant surprise!

The movie was very good, Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci are very good together, they were also great in the Devil Loves Prada. The only thing I didn't care for about the movie was that parts of it seem to go on too long and there were a few scenes that didn't seem to have much of a point.

I couldn't wait for the movie to come out because I loved My Life in France and Julie and Julia so much and because Nora Ephron writes good stuff and makes good movies.
The source material is so rich and alive that it could have and should have been made into two completely different movies. It must have been a hoot for the director to make the two into one and juxtapose as they did, and it was nice, but lacked the depth of feeling that came with each. So, if you haven't read either book, you will probably like the movie. There are some great lines and Meryl Streep seems to become Julia Child, she's so good at it. Four stars because of Streep and the subject matter.
Of course now I'm at home trying to perfect beurre blank.

Meryl Streep was superb and the story of her life in Paris was fascinating. Meryl captured the essence of Julia and her struggle to learn french cooking and publish a book about it. Amy Adams was spot on. You never once doubted she was this young woman trying to become a writer despite the challenges of french cooking and living above a Pizza take out in Queens. Very difficult to pull off two barely related stories in one movie, but both flowed and intermixed extremely well.

I loved it! It was such an amusing film that it felt like I had a grin plastered to my face the entire two hours. All of the actors gave outstanding performances but for me, it was Stanley Tucci's portrayal of Paul Child that caught my attention. Meryl is completely fascinating to behold in this movie. Her combination of range, depth, genre, dramatic style, work ethic, sense of humor, artistic courage, and pitch-perfect character portrayals is simply a gift of the highest order to fellow actors, directors, critics, and film lovers for all time. Have some fun: watch all her films starting from the beginning. You'll be blown away.
I found myself wishing that there had been more scenes in France and fewer in Queens. Meryl Streep continues to play her roles to perfection. Amy Adams continues to be adorable. The only problem I had with the movie was the fact that Jlia Child never had an opportunity to meet with Julie. I think she would have had an different attitude and found Julie to be a positive influence on French Cooking. Stanley Tucci was an excellent foil to Julia. I keep thinking of him as "El Morte" in Undercover Blues." If you have never seen the movie, by all means rent it on DVD.! A Must! Movie was definitely worth seeing!

The Meryl Streep (Julia) side of this story is far stronger than the Amy Adams (Julie) side, which has little plot other than the task of cooking many recipes. Small incidents are manufactured, like a split with Julie's saintly and somewhat unbelievable husband, but the conflicts are minor and unconvincing. None the less, Adams is charming. The film drags in Julie's half of the story but always cuts back to the inimitable Meryl Streep. The truth is the intercutting saves the film from tediium and disguises a shallow plot. But "Julie and Julia" remains a joy given the dreck in theaters lately. And it's another Oscar worthy performance from out best actress.

The movie was fun on several levels. The love story of Julia and Paul Childs, the juxtapositioning of the very different points in time, the fabulous acting of the two female leads, and the bit of history thrown in make it unique. I came right home and pulled out my "Mastering the art of French Cooking" and read through it again! Maybe I'll try it soon.

The stories of Julie & Julia, tho set in different decades and continents, are tied together nicely in a conhesive narrative about each of their individual struggles to find direction and a sense of purpose in the world. This movie has many laugh-out-loud elements as well as a few moist-eyed moments. Never has chopping an onion been as hysterical as in Julia's kitchen. Getting Child's voice & mannerisms exactly right without lampooning her proves once again Streep's brilliance. Stanley Tucci plays Julia's husband with a warmth and charm so tangible, I fell in love with him a little myself. Tho this is definitely a chick-flick, it has no cringe-inducing moments that would prevent the most macho date from enjoying it. Bon appetit!
