This was a very dear movie. The characters were sweet, human and real. The plot was predictable, mostly, as real life often is, but that didn't matter, as the strivings of our main characters Julie and Julia, were entertaining enough on their own. Though not Oscar material, this film shows us again that Meryl Streep is an absolute MASTER of her craft. Further, we can begin to see the artistic growth of Amy Adams. Tucci is Tucci and that works well here.
Overall, definitely rentable, but in my opinion also great for a romantic or family night out.

I am a chick who does not like chick flicks, and reluctantly went to this movie and loved it. It is NOT a chick flick. It is about two women trying to find their place in their worlds and being lucky enough to have two wonderful, supporting husbands helping them do it. Guys, this is a great movie to take your ladies to if you want to remind them of how wonderful you are. Meryl Streep was dead on as Julia Child and brought back wonderful memories of both her show and SNL making fun of her show. The two storylines meshed well together. My only complaint was that I wish there had been more Julia Child - you got disappointed every time it went back to Julie and her neuroses. Bon appetit!

I'm a guy, and I want to know what defines a "chick flick"? Is it when there is man-bashing involved? If so, this is no chick flick, because the men were strong and supportive. Meryl Streep was wonderful as she is in every movie she acts in. And Amy Adams was perfect as Julie Powell. The interweaving of the two lives was well done, but I would have enjoyed some literary license being taken to arrange a meeting of the two characters.
I might read the book after watching this movie, but I looked forward to the movie and it did not disappoint.

Although some might say that this is a "girls' movie", I felt that it was a great film for anyone who loves to cook food and appreciates great acting. Meryl Streep gives an Oscar worthy performance as did Stanley Tucci. The two interweaving plots were brilllantly achieved by Nora Ephron. I'd recommend this movie to anyone who appreciates the sensuality of eating wonderful meals and who would love to spend a few hours with Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci and Amy Adams.

I thought this movie was fantastic. Julia Child was such a character. She was funny, delightful, and so talented. I loved the relationship she had with her husband and sister and I loved her spunk and her ability to make things happen for herself regardless of what other people thought. She adored food and she was a marvelous cook. Meryl Streep was fantastic, I actually forgot that it was her playing Julia. The only negative thing was Julia's reaction to Julie's blog and how hurt Julie was and how she never got to meet Julia. It was a good movie, I wouldn't mind seeing a second one.

I had my male friend come with me and he liked it and stayed awake during the whole movie and felt it was funny. I thought the movie was great---funny and very entertaining---easy to follow and the food makes you wish you could cook. Of course knowing that it was a true story made it even more exciting.

Adams is adorable and Streep lives up to her rep as one of our finest actresses - she has Julia's quirky speech mannerisms down! Kudos also to Tucci and Messina as the often bemused husbands in the parallel story lines.
A weakness of the film, if anything, is the parallel story lines. Each arcs differently toward the end, leaving the viewer missing something just out of reach. This may have been Ephron's intent -a European film ending, perhaps? Also the inclusion of Aykroyd's famous parody on SNL, may have added a jangling note at the wrong moment...
Nevertheless, delightful film! Dark moments never darken bright moments - perhaps that's the lesson of passionate obsession that underlies much of this film. So go and enjoy, Bon Appetit!

If you loved Julia Child, if you love to cook, or even if you ever wanted to explore a dream but thought you were too old to, this story, or these two stories, are for you. It is always unfair to compare a book to a movie, and, in the case of this movie it is based on two books, and Nora Ephron pulls it off. Compelling lives, especially charming is the retelling of Julia and Paul Child during their time in France. Lastly, how sexy is Stanley Tucci? He's bald and his name is Stanley, and yet, he's sexier than Brad Pitt! Oh yeah, Oscar nom for Meryl, Mais Oui!

This was an impossibly romanticized portrayal of 2 marriages but a delightful light comedy. I've already borrowed the first volume of Julia's book from one of my friends. I was thoroughly entertained. I wasn't crazy about the jumping back and forth between blogger and Julia. Another problem was that I hadn't eaten dinner and didn't have time to buy a snack. With all that Yumming and cooking in the movie I scoodled home and made myself something cooked in butter of course! I am looking forward to trying her cookbook now though.

It was wonderful - funny, heartfelt, informative, and a good time. Not a chick flick - you will love the scenes of Paris, the love story, the juxtaposition of women in the 1940s and the 21st century and most all the food! Don't believe the critics - Amy Adams does a great job being a devotee of Julia - her story of course is not in the same realm as the epic that was Julia Child's life. And of course who compares with Meryl Streep? No violence, dysfunctional families, or blood and gore except for the chicken in the Saturday night live skit. Just great entertainment.

loved it! can't wait to go home and cook up a storm! Meryl & Amy & Stanley Tucci were excellent in this exceptional film. I saw it with my mother in law, sister in law & daughter - we all loved it! Ages 62-10!

This movie is delightful. Meryl Streep has her best role in many years. Her portrayal of Julia Child with the telltale mannerisms and roller coaster voice is absolutely uncanny. Inevitably she overshadows everyone else, but in fact the performances of the other principals are all fine, too. Especially Amy Adams in the smaller role of Julie. Amy Adams is so cute and appealing a performer that, if she were in the room with me, I'd want to go nibble on her.

I've always admired Julia Child but this movie realy brought her to life - really showed her through a different lense, so to speak. I never imagined her to be so funny and so cute. On the old t.v. shows, she comes across as kind of goody goody and a little frumpy. This movie showed a completely different Julia, the "real mccoy!" I loved it!

This movie did not appeal to me in the beginning. After thinking about it I figured how could it be bad with Meryl Streep so I took a chance and went to see it anyway. This is a very cute, funny, heartwarming and TRUE story which I did not know and I learned so much about Julia Child that was so very interesting. Go see it, it will be worth your time.

The story was good and funny, if a tad bit long, but Meryl and Amy were outstanding, so i have to rate this one a 5.

Meryl Streep, was simply brilliant!! I smiled throughout all of her scenes. The only problem I had, was that Amy Adams scenes, had to be as charming as Meryls, but they weren't, and thus, I found myself wanting more Julia, than Julie.
However, I liked this movie a lot, and would definitely see it again. Oscar material for Meryl, once again. She is so charming in this movie!! In my opinion, it's her best work to date..
