I blame Dustin Lance Black for the narrative of the film. It starts at the end so you know the eventual outcome in the first few minutes of the film. I knew to keep myself at bay because having been alerted to the tragic outcome. There is no trace of Sean Penn in this film. The emotions that run across his face when he learns the outcome of his fight against California Prop 6 brought tears to my eyes. I would have preferred that the film were a bit longer and would have gone into the events after the end of the film. I believe that this is perfectly timed to show California how they dropped the ball with Prop 8 and will take many friends to see this.

Sean Penn so embodies this character, I forgot Emile Hirsch was himself. Great screenplay, but what most important is that this crazy story be told. If Dan White was black or latin they would have killed him meaning "the corrupt police " or he would have done life in Prision. It shows what weird times the 70's were. I loved them...in spite of this fact. I highly recommend this film

It's rare that a movie surpasses expectations. It has happened with Milk. It's a great movie, greatly directed and Sean Penn gives the best performance ever. He's helped but an exceptional cast of colleagues that, excuse the term, they all look like a bunch of REAL queens. They are all fantastic and the movie is an important piece of cultural history and civil right conquest. Thank You Harvey, and Thank You Gus. Hope the movie and the cast will get as many statuettes as they deserve.

In my opinion, 'Milk" is one of the best movies I have seen in years. It seems that the producers have assembled the best of everyone from the director and writers, to the cast, crew, editors, etc. etc. and so forth. Sean Penn gives an Oscar-winning performance. ...starting with Sean Penn who IS Milk in a beautifully realized performance that pulls out all the stops. He did his homework and not only mastered this character's mannerisms, but brought his perseverance and kind heart to life again as a champion for a fight that is still very timely and real for some of our citizens.
All the other performances were terrific, with Franco, Luna, Hirsch, and especially Brolin as the confused and disturbed White to round out this memorable group of charcters that were part of a historical event that still resonates today.
I recommend it highly.

This movie is so important to see ideas and social ignorance have not changed in 30 years. Sad, but true. The only change that can happen is with oneself. I recently traveled home for a holiday visit and while I would consider myself fashion forward, I was mocked and laughed at everywhere I turned. Apart from my true friends no one realized I was decked head to toe in Louis Vuitton and Jil Sander. The words fxx and quxxx are still roaming about. It made me so insecure I ignored running into my nephew because I did not want to subject him to my humiliation. Until the mutual respect for humans is present there will always be a need for remembering the past. Think before you judge. We can all look at Harvey Milk and be proud!
