Very strong movie! Just like the cartoon with a modern twist. Take the action The Matrix mix it with the dialogue and mystique V for Vendetta and you have Speed Racer. They give a new meaning to a car race/chase/fight! I will be going to see this one again.

I anticipated this movie very much. My 10 yr old enjoyed it alot. It was fun, clean, and suitable for all ages - young and old alike. Original style of graphics - VERY cool movie. I appreciated that the main character wasn't very well-known - made it more interesting. Susan Sarandon was adorable. John Goodman was awesome. Go see it.

I thought all in all the movie was really really good. the movie kept to the cartoon series as good as anyone could possibly do in a 2 hour movie and probably as good as they could make without going fully cg or animated. The plot was really good but was pretty much given away in the trailers advertised on tv. The story-line jumped around too much but was quickly to re-center on a single period in the movie.

Would I recommend this to a person who loves eating penne pasta and watches Merchant Ivory marathons at art houses? No. Would I recommend this movie to a film lover who doesn't mind letting her/his inner 9-year old out to enjoy cinematic fun and excitement? Yes. This film has more than just guilty cheese to offer. There are some very interesting craft moves that I've never seen before employed by the Warchowskis in this film. I grew up on anime and Asian cinema and I'm impressed that the Warchowskis have managed to pull off fusing the excitement of racing video games, the original Speed Racer animated show and the hypnotic atmosphere of a trance club all on to silver screen. Bravo!

I watched Speed Racer as a young girl in reruns, but unfortunately, I couldn't remember much about the cartoon. Soon after watching the movie, I went back and googled the cartoon. Although my boy seemed to be interested in the movie, he hasn't mentioned it too much since we left. It did have some entertainment value but the plot development went at light speed in the beginning making it difficult to follow for a child (flashbacks). Seemed they could have taken more time with the plot development since it is a two hour-ish movie. The second half of the movie drags and seems to only pick up when the races or fights happened. I could do without the "What the f...." statement made by John Goodman during the "earthquake" in the kitchen scene. He didn't say the f word but almost did and there was absolutely no need for it. It didn't develop anything and had no value. The kid flipping the bird caused quite a laugh among the kids in the audience, but I can see this being repeated at school or day cares around the nation. It's just not good. I expected a Cars type movie with a plot that would be easy to follow for a child, but I was disappointed. I just don't see how this was a good movie for kids since the plot was fast and hard to follow. I don't recommend this movie, but feel free to see it and determine for yourself if a child would be able to grasp the true concept of the movie. Great visuals and special effects... but it's lost from there.

The movie was an incredible onscreen remake, faithful to the original - loved the story, graphics and good-hearted corniness that is Speed Racer. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars but for one thing - what in the world were they thinking to include a child "shooting a bird" at adults? Even my 11 year old was turned off and disappointed by it. Too much bad language too - come on guys. Neither fit the movie. Hollywood just won't learn. I couldn't recommend it with a clear conscience.

We took my 6 year old son and a friend and they loved it. My husband and I felt that it was a little complicated for kids, however they didn't seem to notice. They laughed and cheered through the whole thing. There did seem to be some unecessary language, but for the most part it was fun! The visual effects were terrific!

I think the racing scenes were great, the plot was okay. The movie was a little long for the younger crowd and there was a few slow periods were my son (6-years old) thought it would be okay to talk since nothing was going on in his mind. It's official, the summer movie season is in full swing. The second arrival, Speed Racer, delivers a high action, visually stunning, animated cartoon come to life. The movie is very good, and there's plenty to keep the kids entertained. Adults who watched the original series as children will find several referrences to the source material, but it doesn't get obnoxious. This is Speed Racer for the new millenium. There's lots to see and it may take a couple of viewings to see everything which is probably going to make this movie a monster DVD release in a few months. Overall, a good movie but the young ones may have trouble sitting for the entire 2 1/2 hours which includes preview trailers.

As a SR fan I had to catch this movie. After seeing the previews, I expected it to be all flash and little substance. Turns out, I was wrong. This movie was fun and entertaining. A very faithful transition to the big screen. The visuals and art direction were top notch. Overall, with minor flaws, the film exceeded my expectations.

Went withmy 3 Kids 2, 4, & 7 and a freinds child that was 8. All of them loved the film and said it was thebest movie ever. I thought it was great kids movie and it did drag a little which isn'tgood for kids, but the races were very exciting and great graphics. The monkey was a great additon for the kids. they loved hiim.

I go to the movies for entertainment. I allow my 8 year old to choose the movies we see together. When he decided we should see Speed Racer, I wasn't expecting to be entertained, just spend some quality time with my son. Well, regardless of what others have written, I was well entertained. So much so that we went back the next day and saw it again! It was great fun and had a good story line about family.

I grew up on the original Speed Racer cartoon. It was a pleasure to take my five kids ranging from 12 to 4 years of age. The modern additions and plot were great. Wish there had not been quite so much bad language in the beginning of the movie, but it seemed to calm down later. Because we have five kids, we don't all go to the movies often. This was worth it.
