Parents, you're kids and you can both enjoy it. No worries: no sex, no bad language, no half-naked women, no suggestive themes, super awesome effects, good storyline, lots of good-hearted humor - wait! You can leave all that out and have a phenomenal family flick? YES! Hollywood please know this and thank you for making this one. From a pastor who took his own 14 year old son whom we monitor his media intake :Go out, enjoy it!
Acting was very good by these young actors and made it believable. It pushes the edges a bit (thus the pg-13 rating) but never crossed a line that was opportunistic. It handled so many issues in one flick i couldn't almost get it all in - and that is good.
The teens loved it. It also helps parents realize the world our teens live (as opposed to the one we were in at that age) and can start hopeful conversations about Christ with others.
I will definitely show it to them again when it comes out on DVD. Go take your teens AND their parents to see it now!
Few times nowadays can you go to a movie that you feel a little guilty having seen because it resorts to bad language or sick body humor. This movie you can go to guilt free. Was it Academy award winning? Definitely not. Was it a fun flick you won't be embarrassed to invite others to see? YES! My 86 year old mother and 12 year old boy went and I wasn't embarrassed to have them there either. Go see it.
The movie was an incredible onscreen remake, faithful to the original - loved the story, graphics and good-hearted corniness that is Speed Racer. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars but for one thing - what in the world were they thinking to include a child "shooting a bird" at adults? Even my 11 year old was turned off and disappointed by it. Too much bad language too - come on guys. Neither fit the movie. Hollywood just won't learn. I couldn't recommend it with a clear conscience.
