All of my already high expectations of the movie were met by yet more proof that Abrams can do just about anything. A movie doesn't need to lose its soul to the special effects which happens all to often in this era of CGI. Star Trek has soul to spare. Great way to relaunch Star Trek and I look forward to new movies and adventures.

This is by far the most oustanding prequel I've ever seen, although I am a little disappointed at the way it ended with a slightly altered timeline.

You don;t have to be a Trekkie to enjoy this film. Just ask my 11 and 13 year old!!
Excellent movie to see for those wanting to see a great Sci fi flick AND A welcomed site for Trekkie's dying for a new birth! I am sure some Trekkie's have some questions. Uhura and Spock love affair. I thought Nurse Chapel was sweet on Spock. And a Romulan villain? I thought in the Original series they had never seen a Romulan before. IE Balance of Terror season 1. I also thought Scotty should have been brought in sooner. BUT..non the less still a GREAT Star Trek movie ranks right up there with the trilogy Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, and The Voyage Home!! Great job JJ thanks for bringing Gene's conception of the show back to it's roots.

What an amazing movie!!
Not a Trek fan in the least (tried getting into it when I was a little kid, but could never gain interest) but my friends and I had the best time watching this.
I'm a big JJ Abrams fan (Lost, Alias) so I knew he wouldn't let us down, and he DOESN'T!
The story, ALL of the actors, the comedy, the staggering detail in the special effects makes this perfect for anyone looking for a super fun blockbuster film this summer.
Some of the action scenes in space might just take your breath away.
If you just have a very mild, super basic knowledge of the original show (main characters names and their famous lines). you'll have a REALLY good time with this :)
Believe the hype...GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

I was skeptical before I went, thinking how good can another prequel be, but I can not believe how awesome they wove the original series into a wonderfully told beginning years. If you are even a remote Trekkie, you must see this movie. I know I will again and again.

It's difficult to review this movie without spoilers but I'll try. In short, the direction was great, kept true to original characters. Chris Pine was a good Kirk but Karl Urban nails McCoy. Some storyline may be disagreeable with us oldie Trekkers (Uhura is case in point) but keep in mind these are "youngsters" just starting their careers. Good action, humorous scenes, plot opens up a whole different direction that Star Trek will take. Let's see what they do with it. All in all, a great intro to the new Trek. Looking forward to more.

Story line well thought out, like the way there was consistency between scenes. Explanations of characters and plot tie-ins were well done and not boring for those who have previously followed the series. Interpretations of objects and visuals from original series into current special effects was done very well.

Trying to revive an icon of sci-fi history and reinvented is a difficult task. More plastic looking characters and less treki stuff was the formula. A lot of super impressive visual effects and a new timeline changed by future and past events, and not restored to it's original state is interesting, meaning that the new "old star trek" is open to rewritting, this is the more difficult change for fans to swallow.
good movie, I give it 3 and a half stars but the system will not let me do that. I settle with a three stars.
I am waiting for the new adventures of an old sieres reinvented from scracth. With Vulcan vanished and romulants without a clue of what will happen to them look messy for now, I hope they fix it in the next sequels.

I am not a Star Trek fan but this movie was type cast extremely well. I am 56 years old and remember each character well. I like the added twist between Ohura and Spock. This could not have been done in the 1960's or it would have been canceled before anyone got a chance to know any of the characters.
America has finally grown up to understand that people are people and aliens are aliens, no matter where or who they are.
We have finally caught up with most of the world.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Star Trek. I had never followed the show before, really didn't know what the premise of the movie was. The acting is great, Chris Pine has great comedic timing; Simon Pegg is a great addition, and so is Anton Yelchin. He is hilarious. The movie is over 2 hours, but it doesn't feel like that. You'll be enthralled the entire time!

The rest of the "summer" movies will have a hard time topping this. Simply the best Star Trek feature I have ever seen in terms of engagement, excitement, and enjoyment. Spend the money and take out your family, girlfriend or friends because you will not have any regrets.

They nailed this one, as a trekie of old. I would be hard to suggest how it could of been done better. I was so pleased when I saw it on Thrusday I went back on Saturday, on the 2nd visit the movie got a round of applause that I have never heard before in a theater before.
Gene Rodenberry would be quite proud of this one. It was done in true Star Trek Fashion, very well done.

Whether you are a Star Trek fan or not, you will love this movie. One of the best movies that I have ever seen. A must see for Trekies. Don't let the PG13 scare you away from taking your kids. The only questionable scene is nothing that you haven't seen on a family beach, the mall, woman's magazine, or TV soap opera. No foul language. Excellent movie for all ages.

I've been a Trek fan for years and was very apprehensive about a new Trek movie with a new cast.
Pleasantly surprised doesn't begin to describe my reaction to this movie. I intend to go back for a 2nd screening (not normal for me at today's theatre prices) just to catch the nuances I may have missed the first time through.
J.J. Abrams 'light-hearted' touch on this movie was reminiscient of the Harve Bennett Trek movies. (ie; Star Trek IV).
I will be anxiously waiting for the next installment to this series, and am hoping that Mr. Abrams will involve himself in that one too.

Lots of action. Lot of excitement. Lots of fun. If you are looking for a highly entertaining film, this is it.
If you are an old school "Trekker" who can only appreciate a story line that is 100% true to established Star Trek canon, this will not be your cup of tea.
Too many Trek fans are looking for a film that faithfully follows characters, story lines and visions of the future that were born over 40 years ago. Not gonna happen!!
The original Star Trek franchise was dying along with it's aging fan base. It was high time that Trek was revitalized with new blood, new ideas, new visions AND new fans. This film accomplished that mission and then some. GO SEE IT!! IT'S GREAT!!

The tag line really says it all, This isn't your father's Star Trek. With a great cast, of relatively unknown actors and a great twist that gives Abrams and the writer's the opportunity to give an updated version of the story Star Trek is an enjoyable experience for die hard Trekkie's or those who've never watched any of the series. If you're looking for a good action, character driven science fiction movie - Star Trek will give you all that you're looking for and more!

INCREDIBLE! So well made, with all the respect and proper deference to what has become a cultural icon, the Star Trek story. The energy, technology and potential (with a young cast ready to "seek new worlds") to entertain us for another several decades. Not too much, just the right touch. Perfect casting, beautiful CGI and a creative story, with the same amount of sarcastic, adult humor that has become a hallmark of Star Trek. JJ Abrams took this one to the moon and beyond and I look forward to many new adventures with this fresh, young cast.

JJ Abrams did well with the effort of back-story to the characters which helped to make sure this installment wasn't simply Star Trek 11. Excellent choices with Sulu, Checkov, Ohura, Bones and Scotty while capturing Spock and Kirk very well. Would die-hard Trekkies love this film? Probably not due to some slight specifics, but go see it, I would see it again and buy the DVD, for JJ Abrams reminds us this is a fun storyline, iconic characters in a film franchise that still has so much potential.

The best Star Trek ever. I was doubtful it would live up to the previous Trek movies and quickly was assured this might be better.
Within the first half hour there was no doubt. This is an amazingly well done movie. And seeing Spock in a cameo role was thrilling! You must see this movie. And if possible, see it at the iMax theater. Man... What an experience that was!

Ok, so I'm not a hardcore trekkie, barely, even a casual one. This movie, I thought had it all - great story, good action, good but not overdone humor and most importantly, it didn't forget to get the status quo of the Enterpise crew started, while also dealing with all the various back stories. A very enjoyable film from beginning to end.

Look, I'm a fan since I was a kid. I have fond memories of watching the old series and movies with my father. Not a convention guy but still a big fan. This story manages to "re-boot" the Star Trek idea AND be actually be a sequel to everything we've seen before. I had my reservations and wasn't expecting to be this blown away. It's been a while since I've so completely enjoyed myself at a movie. Have fun wether you've seen everthing else or not.
