Probably one of the better written Star Trek movies of our time with a chance to revive the series again. Yes, they changed the timeline and wiped out an entire species (almost), but timelines can be changed again so die hard Trekies should think about that before picketing movie lines.

We are old school Star Trek fans. The movie was fantastic . It showed such charachter and depth to all the original stars. I truely loved the semi passionate side of Spock. It was truely a great film. Can't wait till it comes out on dvd.

A great reboot of a Great series. Casting was Spot On, Acting couldn't have been better. The production, technical, acting, and writing were first rate. There were some basic changes to some historical plot and story lines that were changed for what ever reason. While understood that they may have been needed for future production they were a slight distraction. This is my only reason for 4 stars rather than 5.
All that said I give praise and will recamend this movie and will most likely pay to see it again.

A well written script based on the original Star Trek. JJ Abrams really put together a fantastic film. I don't give it 5 stars because there are a couple transitions that aren't very smooth.
I think this has the possibility to carry forward like the new Dark Knight series. Edgier and better written than the original movies.

The movie contained much humor, action and even some emotional moments. I was afraid it might only appeal to Star Trek fans, but it was completely the opposite. I think children, women, and men could all like this movie.
My only downfall to the film was that it wasn't absoultely mind-gripping or wonderful. I mean it was worth a see and a good film, but not spectacular as the critics are raving.

Great production design. Acting: solid and the action sequences were breathtaking. It was nice to see Trek finally done with the scope of a major motion picture, rather than a glorified episode. Downside: as a long time ST fan, all of the above could have been accomplished without swinging a wrecking ball through over four decades of continuity. Not worth the sacrifice for such a simplistic plot and a two dimensional villain. ST is a unique franchise with a rich history. Sadly, it required a more respectful touch. It would have been nice to see a new chapter in the existing continuity, while maintaining the film’s strong points. There really was no good reason for “re-imagining” ST, other than sheer laziness or contempt for the property.

Glad they didn't really change the old characters; we must realize an alternate timeline happened when the past was changed with Kirk's father's death, thus that changed the future happenings and dynamics of ALL the character's personalities, etc. All things to happen in the future are not going to be exactly as we older trekkies know. Who knows how the "alternate timeline" engine room, transporter beams, etc may look with that change in mind as well as relationship dynamics (like Uhura and Spock). You change the past and you change the future after that point. I'm ok with the change, the cast had great chemistry and the FXs were believeable. I'm looking forward for this cast to stay together and produce more movies ASAP!

I saw this movie and was thrilled. I though the effects were quite cool, the acting was good, and the story was actually respectful to the origional series. That being said, the things that made this movie great, also gave it some problems. The movie seemed to try and cover too much too fast. It was easy to feel a little rushed through the story...but that being said, except for Star Trek II, this movie is now at the top of my list of favorite Sci-fi movies

This movie was very good. I liked the way it referred back to details from the classic series and movies. Trekkies will like the attention to the detail. It also left the opportunity for more movies and a new series to come since the characters have been re-introduced.....a detail!!

Everyone in our party loved the movie, from hard-core Trekkies to novices. Without being slavish imitations, the character portrayals are dead on,(Kirk is Kirk, Spock is Spock, and Dr. McCoy was like seeing DeForest Kelley back from the dead.. AMAZING!). The Trek Universe is well-drawn, particularly in the more intimate scenes--so hard to do on the large screen. J.J. Abrams really GETS it. MORE! MORE!

This movie was a blast to watch. There was a couple of scenes that could have been edited out but the action is pretty killer.
I will say though that it almost seems as though they saw Star Wars Return of the Jedi and said, "This movie is a classic, lets copy it and people will love this movie."
Somehow it kinda works.
There was a bit too much of the catch phrase stuff. But I feel they did a good job keeping the old fans happy while still leaving room to gain new fans.

I was wondering how they would pull ths off. The cast seemed like such pups. Of course you must willingly suspend some belief, the speed at which Kirk advances and some glaring examples of convinient plot twists- but hey - it's Star Trek - not Black Hawk Down.
I can say, it is NOT the usual Paramount shoe string budget.
If Nimoy liked it, it's good enough for me.

Great movie all of the way around. Forget that I am very invested in this series and forget that I truly enjoy science fiction. This movie had a great story line, wonderful characters, thrills and laughter. From the opening to the closing this movie has it all. I will see it again and recommend it to everyone. When is the next one coming???

i have and will always be a big fan of star trek so i knew it would be good.but when i went to go see the movie i didn't think it was gonna be the best movie i have ever seen.i really can't think of one bad thing about the movie except i wish it had been longer. and to the new crew i have to Salute them :) go see this movie on the big screen or you will regret it.

It's about time that someone was able to break through the hand-tying effect of Trek canon and reignite the franchise! Thank you JJ Abrams!! While the movie contained formulaic elements (time travel, a single powerful entity to galvanize them) classic to Trek movies and TV series, the approach opens up the franchise to new and revisioned stories. I can't wait!! Where can I buy tickets to the next one?!!!

I've seen every Trek movie, and I loved this one. Tied with Wrath as best. Very interesting twist on Trek history, not to give much away. My wife (who hates these movies) gave it an A. So do I.

I don't see many movies twice, but I can't wait to see this one again. Great cast, great story and the epicness of the special effects is just something you have to see on a nice big screen with primo sound that makes the theater shake when they go into "warp speed".

The acting and cast chemistry are really good, as are the effects shots, but the plot is full of outlandish, inexplicable coincidences. The production design is also inexplicable: I had no idea, for example, that the engineering spaces of the Enterprise were filled with stainless steel brewery tanks and leftover pieces of the transparent dolphin tanks from SeaQuest DSV. I've seen every Trek movie - and this is far from the worst of them - but the writers could have been so much more clever. JJ Abrams et al had a real chance at a reboot, and they chose rehash.

As a long time Trek Fan it was great to see the orignal series remade in a great way. the modern actors did a great job capturing the apperance and characters of the original series and I hope to see more movies of this caliber. I was disappointed to see Uhurah turned into a lust object, but at least they didn't make anyone not straight

Having been a longtime fan of most of the Trek TV shows and films, I was somewhat wary of going to see this prequel. However, this is a FANTASTIC film! The actors/actresses who portray the younger versions of the original cast were obviously carefully selected for their ability to capture the spirit of the originals! On the other hand, if you've never seen any of the other TV shows or films, I still recommend this new movie...I'd be amazed if you walk away disappointed.

This movie was extremely entertaining for myself and my family. As a long time S.T. fan, we did have a bit of a continuity problem when certain events happened (self edited to not ruin the action). We could very easily see how this could lead to more movies or a new series. Only problem is that Zachary Quinto would be in the middle of two series.
Woule easliy recommend this to anyone who likes lots of action and adventure.

It could have been an excellent movie, but the out of character in your face slobbering over LT Uhura by Kirk and Spock was over the top; hollywood always seems to run their same agenda of blacks pursuing whites or vice versa; pushing mixed marriages, or political correctness in almost every movie versus equally representing the population of the USA. I for one have not been to a movie for quite some time because of it and am now no longer a Star Trek fan and will never again pay to see a movie again.
