Great cast, no plot

The acting and cast chemistry are really good, as are the effects shots, but the plot is full of outlandish, inexplicable coincidences. The production design is also inexplicable: I had no idea, for example, that the engineering spaces of the Enterprise were filled with stainless steel brewery tanks and leftover pieces of the transparent dolphin tanks from SeaQuest DSV. I've seen every Trek movie - and this is far from the worst of them - but the writers could have been so much more clever. JJ Abrams et al had a real chance at a reboot, and they chose rehash.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
