When I first saw the trailer earlier in the year, I told my dad I was going to take him on a date. He's the one who got me into the series to begin with, and I then passed this onto my 3 year old son, who is now 14. I ended up taking my brother, mother, father, and son to view the movie on the UltraScreen. Well worth the wait, and I hope advantage is taken of this younger cast to produce more films and take it to where no one could go before. As a mother, I was a bit uncomfortable with the semi-nude over-hung Kirk seex implied scenes, and felt it could have been left out.

And I say this as one who was on the original Star Trek set (which was better on TV, of course). See this week's New Yorker for a real review, but while we enjoyed the non-stop rip-roar--and were moved the the graceful use of Leonard Nimoy--the ball wasn't moved down field very far. (At least it wasn't deflated.) Best was assembling the familiar team; the plot and action were forgettable. And nothing will ever top GALAXY QUEST!

I have been a Star Trek Fan for yeas the thing I most loved about it was the fact that alot of the tech stuff we have today came for Star Trek. Then to see modern tech in the movie really made me feel good that we may one day go where no one has gone before. The story was great the only thing I wish was that the story would have been longer. You could have made 2 movies with the content in the new ST. However my top 3 lists like this 4. The voyage home 3. First Contact 2.Wrath of Kahn and Now 1. The Future Begins. I loved it my kids loved and and even my wife loved it and that is saying something. Great Movie I look forward to the next one. Live long and prosper.

Absolutely loved this movie & I too will do something I rarely do-see the movie again. I felt it was one of the better Star Trek movies & it will be interesting to see how the changes in the original story will play out in future movies.

Being a st fan for 30 some years, I thought they did a good job with the choice of actors, and with the characters, but Abrams treatment of the timeline was awful has he not read anything on the history of star trek.

JJ Abrams and his team did a wonderful job adding more depth to the characters and making us give a s**t about them again. Casting was impeccable. Incredible job tying many parts of old Star Trek - Red Suit for the poor sap who is going to die, old sound effects, dips into story lines etc and even laughing at themselves with the green girl. . Heck, even my wife who detests sci-fi enjoyed it. Fantastic job, can't wait for the next one!

As the "Not so die-hard Trekkie" I have always loved Star Trek. This, movie, however gave the series the kick-in-the-pants it desparately needed. The non-stop action and fantastic character portreyals provide a very enjoyable viewing experience.

J.J. Abrams did not disappoint! I was cautiously hopeful going to the movie, and pleasantly surprised afterwards. This movie took the best of the original, and let it be what it is, then took a new direction - as only sci fi can do - and opened the door to a new adventure in the final frontier! I think Gene Rodenberry would be smiling his approval - afterall, he had the foresight of the technology of today that made this new adventure possible. I will do something I rarely do, and that is see the movie at the theater again.

I was looking forward to a new movie, even with a new cast of actors for the series characters.
I enjoyed the movie very much and I think it opens up a whole new universe of possibilities for the characters. Some of the changes from the original setting/timeline (e.g. Spock and Uhura) were very surprising. It makes me wonder else can happen.
I did not enjoy the extremely fast pace throughout most of the movie. This seems to be a trend in many action movies. Let the audience (and the characters) catch their breath and take things in a little.

My husband and I have been following the Star Trek sagas since our much younger days.
GR did such a great job in developing the characters of Star Trek that we both wondered how anyone could come close to matching those indepth qualities
.
But . . . this movie does a wonderful job of reminding us of how those qualities came to be as the plot unfolds and we are drawn into the new, yet feels so familiar, characters we've come to love.
And . . . it certainly was great to see an old friend on the screen again. Bravo!
We're hoping to see more soon!

I was very skeptical about this movie when I first read about it last year. However, as a Star Trek fan, I can honeslty say it was wonderful. It wove the old Star Trek and the new information it presented together to virtual perfection. I wanted to watch it again as soon as it ended.

as an original trek fan, seen every tv series, seen every trek movie, this one has everything the others lacked. For those that say this movie does not honor the past, I say get with the 21st century. Why do you think James Bond got a facelift? The deadpan humor is a tribute to the original series and the old and young Spock comparison is uncanny. Very well written, a little quirky at times but the action and special effects are A #1

I'm a fan of the original Star Trek TV series, but found this movie unable to recreate the charm of the original. The story is difficult to follow and relies on lazy screenwriting trick (time travel) for plausibility. Leonard Nimoy appears as old Spok but the gymnastics of story required are awkward and pasted in. There is a distinct lack of Science which I find pathetic and exploitve for purported Science Fiction show, like a kid who didn't do his homework and copies off his classmate.
Good performance by Simon Pegg as Scotty. Overall skip it, unless you are a Trekie then we both know what you'll do.
Note to Director: Like people, loudness rarely equates with creative.

I couldn't believe it was already over, where did the 2 hours go. Loved It. fun, fast, faithful to the original characters. It is amazing how well the characters fit into the roles .Look forward to seeing it again in IMAX. Go and enjoy.

This movie was fun & incredibly entertaining. I think the director/writers did themselves very proud. This movie was cast perfectly. The acting is A+ all around.
My husband and I've known each other almost 25 years; he's always been a *huge* ST fan. These guys had to do something *very* right if they have got me, a neutral Trek fan wanting more! I definitely want to see the movie again; we want to see it in IMAX. Don't tell my husband but it makes me want to watch everything again. That's how exciting this movie was!!!!
Finally, my Dad is nearly impossible to please. He was 16 when he watched the very first pilot for Star Trek in 1966. He didn't expect much going into this experience; he was incredibly happy at the result. :)

Good fight senes, but too much camera motion. I view that kind of cinemitography is just an excuse for poor corrographing or poor special effects.
Also, the scenery of the interior of the ships was more like an industral factory. Quit dissapointing.
Other then that I thought the whole concept was great.

Who knew back in 1965 that someday movie makers would time travel with such finesse to create the prequel to the first Star Trek TV show? Yes, this one is controversial. It took some risks to give the old characters a new edge, and that offends some diehard Trekkies. But it works for this Trekkie. And the reason it does is that this movie catches the crew in the act of being formed. Spock hasn't quite defined himself as a Vulcan; Kirk hasn't yet discovered that strong rebels make strong leaders; and Bones, well actually he's exactly the same (but he was always the older guy). Big thumbs up - fun, well-sequenced action, and a plot that keeps moving. I think I'll go see it again.

I grew up watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and the Original movies. I didn't think it was a good idea to restart it, and didnt think it would be good. I was totally wrong.
The movie appeals to fans, but my wife (not a fan) thoroughly enjoyed it as well.

Let's face it; Star Trek has grown old and tired. After ten movies and uncountable TV episodes, Trek collapsed under its own weight.
Faced with the thankless job of trying to replace beloved actors in iconic characters, Abrams takes the best parts of Trek and places them in a newer, slicker package without becoming bogged down by Trek past.
The movie is perfect, there are several glaring holes in the plot that one could drive a truck through. But this is an exciting summer popcorn movie with a storyline that starts with a bang and never feels like it lets up. And with all the action and whizz bang effects comes a story that's really about the characters and I guess that’s what Star Trek, when it’s at its best, is all about.
