Everyone just wants to mutate then go home. Finally a movie that I really enjoyed. Intrigueing thought provoking story, with a good mix of action and character development.
Warning: Not a date movie, unless your chick is really cool.
Another consumable Boy meets Girl story Blah..Blah you know the rest. These movies are the junk food of cinema. NO ONE will be watching this 5-10 years from now.
However, if you like Sandra Bullock, which I do, its worth renting. Nice settings in Sitka, Alaska and good performance by Betty White.
As the last theatre re-viewer of this movie I can say it is good to rent. The high speed transport of the loot is ridiculous as Keystone Cop NYPD wads up so badly and endanger more people than they are trying to save?
Travolta is unbelievable as the bad wall street guy. His Low financial I.Q. pokes out and is embarassing. Perhaps they should have cast some actor who counts his own money.
Good performance by Denzel Washinton. Anyone who writes a review after this is fronting, and did not see Pelham in a theatre.
Excellent computer graphics and creative settings are featured, with overall captivating story that grows progressively obtuse as it progresses. The finaly is unsatisfying and contrived as the future is left to the Robot nuclear family, Mom/Dad/ 2 kids. With the seeming message that there is no place in the future for #1 Intelectuals, #8 Big Strong Dumb Magneto indulgers, #5? Crazy Artistic Types or #2 Curious Adventureres.
Johnny Depp's performance is workmanlike in this graphically violent and long gangster tale. However, the character he plays lacks all the charm and nuances that have made JD's portrayals likable are lacking here. If your a fan you may be disturbed to see your favorite actor in this role. If you want a bloody violent ganster movie with lots of gun play maybe this is for you.
I'm amazed how good computer animation is getting. Thinking back to the first time I saw it featured in the Dire Straits Music Video back in 83' its great to see how its progressed.
I'm not a big fan of Ed Asner since my cab driving friend told me what a cheap/non tipper he turned out to be after blathering on about what a big-shot he was the whole ride. But he brings some depth to this role.
Also, Pete Doctor shows that you can have cartoon and compelling story at the same time. Kudos.
If I may quote Mark Twain, "The man with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds." Will Ferrell plays the obtuse Dr. Rick Marshall who invents the machine that allows traveling sideways in time. We follow Dr. Rick as he faces the non-technical challenges any new idea must hurdle.
The real star of this movie are the surreal visual images painted by Director Brad Silbering. The desert backgrounds mixed with the 50's pop-icons create a sublime impression reminiscent of a Salvador Dali. This alone warrants my recommendation. There are also some kitschy TV references and humorous anecdotes that also make the movie easy to watch.
Another action packed BB for your entertainment. Enjoy the CG animated robotics while munching your popcorn or smuggled in beef jerky. One of my favorite aircraft, the A-10 Warthog (renamed Thunderbolt - lame) kicks A just like in real life.
I don't understand why the robots are rounding up the h-noids instead of laying waste? Maybe next eposode this well be explained.
This is a fun movie suitable for the whole family. Ben Stiller has a few good scenes as the Night Watchman, but the co-stars steal the show. Notabley, Amy Adams as the spunky Amelia Earhart dominates. I'd like to see more of her. Hank Azaria as Pharaoh Kahmunrah stands out along with the actor playing Colonel Custer.
Set in the DC Museum complex allows brief exposure to the national treasures and hopefully might jump start some tourism amongst those who've been putting off a visit to our Nations Capitol.
I lost all sympathy for the victims when they chose to ignore the bomb threat and refused to evacuate the grounds. Even though the story is cleverly written and Tom Hank's performance is strong (as expected) this movie drags. It lacks creativity and seems formulaic. I spent the 2nd half waiting for it to end. Ron Howard should step asside. I'm sick of seeing budget, talent, and good stories squandered by him.
