This movie was a perfect example of how a pre-existing universe should be revisited. Altered enough to fit a story but true to the original. It was clearly written by actual fans of the show and not some Hollywood money-maker. Well done.

I almost forgot I was watching a "Star Trek movie"! In fact, people who've never seen an episode of any Star Trek show would still really enjoy this movie...of course, it's 10x funnier if you have.
The action was great. The jokes were funny. The male bonding was touching. The villians were...kind of annoying, but appropriate.
The best part - even though it was a prequel, I didn't really know what to expect!
Go watch it - you'll love it. And if you don't...maybe you should go see Ghosts of Girlsfriends Past. Humph!

I felt this was the best of all the Star Trek movies I've seen so far. The IMAX experience is not to be missed for this! I have followed these characters since I first watched them on TV back in the 60's. This movie does not disappoint. My 24 year old son and 89 year old mother both enjoyed the movie so it seems to appeal to folks of all ages as well as both sexes. It might be a bit too intense for younger children so the rating was appropriate. I was very happy with the casting of all the characters except Spock's parents.....as for the new Spock---ladies, what a hottie!

First off if you are a Star Trek fan of the type who can't handle change or has a problem with 'tampering' with the Star Trel history or tradition then DO NOT GO SEE THIS MOVIE; as yu will only be unsatisfied or even angered because like the film says in most adds, this is not your fathers Star Trek!
Its clear Abrahams poured everything into this film and it shows from it's cleever way of how to re-do the Spock & kirk history (without pretending like all other Trek movies never occurred) to the non-stop action sequences down to the neatly woven comedy bits in the film such as the interaction between Kirk & Bones when Kirk is trying to get on board the Enterprise.

This movie breaths new life into a franchise that has had its rough patches as of late. It was a great movie with laughs, seriousness, and ACTION, ACTION ACTION. When it got to the end I couldn't believe that I had just watched 2 hours worth of movie. It kept me from beginning to end and I will watch it at the theater again...

I know alot of diehard fans have been disapointed with this movie because it rewrote Star Trek history, But it rewrote Star Trek History. Maybe Capt. Kirt does not die now in Nexis. This movie open up alot more of what could have/can happen, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

As I child I grew up on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but had my fair exposure to the original series as well. I enjoyed the other films and their characters were amusing. This film, however, took everything to a whole new level. The cast did a phenomenal job with picking up the idiosyncraties and character puns used by the original cast, and added a new and youthful flair. J.J. Abrams' directing was fantastic, and the effects rivaled any Sci Fi film you can put in the ring. I went into the movie with high expectations and was quite surprised when they were exceeded-in the opening sequence! Definitely a movie for Trekkies and avid movie watchers alike!

Having a husband and two sons, I had no chance but to be a star trek fan from the very beginning. Or at least I thought it was the beginning. After seeing the new Star Trek movie and witnessing the events leading up to the USS Enterprise I can hardly wait to see any and all sequals that come out because of it. Congratulations to young Spock, Kirk, Sulu, Nevora, Chechoff, Scotty and Bones. They were fantastic.

If this is what Star Trek will be from now on, then I can't wait for the sequels.
Simply and brilliantly entertaining, it tells a great story that is both epic and intimate.
Even if you've never seen Star Trek, this movie is just a blast--you don't need to know a Klingon from a Ferrengi in order to enjoy it.

This was my second-go-round for Trek, saw it the first time at the IMAX and it was just as fantastic on the repeat as the first time. This was a truly fantastic trip into the world I've loved since I was knee-high, I think Roddenberry would have absolutely loved it. I hear they've already green-lighted another and I'll be on pins and needles waiting :)

I am 51 years old and so there have been some GREAT movies over the years. While this one, in my opinion, did not rank up there with the GREAT ones, it was very good.
The special effects were AMAZING and though the actors, at times, had cheezy lines, the cast was very good. I thought that the writers did a good job of casting the roles so that they lined up with the original series.
The only issue I had with the entire movie was the bedroom scene early on in the film. It not only had no relevance to the movie itself but it ruined it for parents who do not want their kids to see that kind of stuff. A poor decision on the writers part.
Bottom line...you need to go see this movie if you enjoy a good sci-fi with loads of action!!!

I enjoyed it. The casting was well done with the exception of Sarek of Vulcan. The age of the "parents" of the youthful Enterprise crew made those cast changes much more jarring to a long time fan.
Cleverly they used the time travel paradoxes to prevent long time fans from doing to much nitpicking. After all, time travel creates a new reality.
Overall, it was well done. A bit overdone with the accents and the space battles, and I can understand that making a 1960's enterprise in the year 2009 creates some problems.
But it was fun, and the younger Enterprise crew did well for themselves.

A lot of good effort in this one, great acting all around. I especially liked Zoe as Uhura, very sassy & hot, & Scotty for comic relief. Some good twists & references to Treks past, BUT the film is more heavy on slam-bang action for "today's market," with the story a little derivative & not so hefty. A couple of black-hole sized plot gaps for me, though others have accepted them in stride. I understand the desire to mix things up for this reboot, but I just wasn't as satisfied with the story in total as I was with Wrath of Khan, for me still the best written & edited of all the Trek movies.

This Star Trek was great!! The cast stood out in my mind the most! It was so wild how they chose actors that really looked and acted like the original Star Trek Cast 42 years ago! The cast is young, so I suspect and hope there will be many more in the makings! All around it was great!

JJ Abrams has definitely re-invigorated the Star Trek franchise with his movie. It's well written, the actors nail the parts, and the action moves along at a pretty good clip. Being a big fan of the original series, I was a little disappointed in the time-line changes he made, but I think it will open up the possibilities for future movies. Would I have liked to see them go back in time and change things? Yes, but I can definitely live with this movie.

I didn't think I'd like this type of movie but I was immediately sucked into the movie. I didn't care what color eyes anyone had, it was very well done. I have fallen out of the Star Trek shows on tv and I miss the original shows, cheesy as they can be. This was indeed a movie I plan on seeing a few more times. Having the bad guy from heros as Spock was perfect, he had the mannerisms down and made the movie very enjoyable.

When it comes to Summer block busters I try to go with low expectations so I won't end up too disappointed. But with this one I could not help but expect the best before going because all of the positive press. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Non stop action and special effects to die for. I have always been a JJ Abrams fan so he delivered wonderfully. Dude really knows how to tell a story. Go see this. Great twist and new beginnings.

i wouldn't recommend sitting in the front-rows if you get any sort of motion sickness, though. i got a bit queazy... but go early the coming attractions are worth seeing, (sit toward the back) and the movie was amazing, i am not a trekee, i am only slightly familiar with the old characters, but great film!!!

Far exceeded my expectation. This has revived the franchise! I am a long time fan but I don't mind the use of the parallel time line device at all. I can't wait to see these new characters evolve over a series of films.

Great story and casting, but was anyone else bothered by the fact that William Shatner's Kirk has brown eyes and Chris Pine's Kirk has blue eyes? Hasn't this make-up crew ever heard of colored contact lenses?

The Cinematography was excellent. The actors were all near perfect except for one. Simon Pegg's portrayal of Montgomery Scott was hideous. Pegg turns the character into a page out of Monty Python.
I was disappointed with the story. In Star Trek lore the Vulcans have always been both a pain in the rear, and the closests and strongest allies we have. To destroy the Vulcan planet is to destroy 40% of the Star Trek legacy.
I am tired of the "go back in time and change everything" threat. Where we the Time Police to help in this movie? They could have fixed this by having one of them arrange the meeting between Kirk and the older Spock. This meeting left to chance was outrageosly contrived.

Non-stop action, characters just campy enough with the mannerisms from the originals. I was actually nervous a few times -that's SAYING something. I don't want to give away anything, but this movie works for longtime fans as well as those who know nothing about the series/franchise. Thanks for the ride, it was GREAT!!! I have never been a big Star Trek fan, but I loved this movie. My husband who is a Star Trek fan loved it as well. So this movie appeals to everyone. The characters are wonderful...you really care about them. The story is so interesting and the action rocks. Oh, and the effects? Excellent!!!
