the writing in this movie was fantastic, I could tell that everyone in the theater knew it too. Even the irritating people with cell phones were left in a silent awe of Star Trek's greatness.

I was so skeptical going into this movie, but I loved it! I have always been a Star Trek fan. Not a Trekkie by a long shot, but a fan, and i have to say that they aren't kidding when they call this the Star Trek for everyone. There is literally something, for everyone. The cast was supurb. The acting was amazing. The story was exciting and riviting. It was funny. It was sad. There is enough nods to the original series to keep fans smiling. Just absolutely amazing. Id go again and again if i could.

From the beginning to the end:
Action packed, smart, witty and (dare I say?) not so cheesy as the series and other movies.
Good work JJ Abrams. I wasn't "Lost" at all watching this movie. I may see it again as an IMAX presentation. Even if you didn't like the original Star Trek series and the spin-offs, this is a fresh, exciting movie for everyone.

The movie kept me engaged the entire time. There's a nice balance of everything...some laughing, some crying, and certainly much sitting at the edge of my seat! The characters had depth, which is unusual to see in an action film. I highly recommend it for all ages!

This was one of the better Star Trek Movies, but it suffered from poor acting by the "new" Kirk(my opinion) and a disjointed story line.
As a prequel it is certainly better that the Star Wars prequels, but I just simply feel Chris Pine did a terrible job as Kirk.
The special effects were great. Hopefully, if this series continues, Chris Pine will become a more believable Kirk (if that is possible)
One last comment, lets try and remember how Pike was originally confined to a wheel chair, from the original series. A series reboot that drifts from the original series itself, is a turn off

Enjoyed the story/plot of James T Kirk's youth and challenge to become commander of the Starship Enterprise. Great story line to bring back original Spock character,,,much more than a cameo appearance by Leonard Nimoy!

I've been a treker for many years. For me, to see different people playing my favorite characters, it was hard to imagine. However, my biggest problem with this movie since I heard it was coming out, was not seeing strange faces on the screen. Instead, it was the possibility of getting something wrong. For example knowing what Romulans looked like before "Balance of Terror".
I thought the young actors who reprised the roles of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, and Sulu were superb! Particularly the young man who played McCoy. He nailed the part! If you're planning to go, and have qualms about this movie, remember; it's NOT classic Star Trek, but it's quite good if you remember that it's an alternate time line!

Great movie for fans and casual fans of the legendary Star Trek series. Great action. Best part is the actors are excellent imitators and really make you believe they are the young Bones, Jim, etc. Special effects are really out of this world. I'd see it again and the last time I felt like that I was 14 and the first Star Wars came out.

I was a big Trekkie & I was disappointed by this film. Yes, the special FX were very cool, but the story itself was lacking.
There are action scenes for their own sake (irrelevant to the plot), like on that ice planet when Kirk is chased or when Scotty beams into the pipe.
Didn't like the Kirk-hates-Spock-hates-Kirk relationship. Just didn't work for me.
Didn't like that the whole plot was just a huge vendetta by one guy.
Star Trek TOS and TNG were renowned for entertaining while providing social/political commentary. This movie was just a plain ol' vanilla action flick. If that's all you're expecting, you'll enjoy it. But if you're expecting a revitalization of old Trek, you'll be disappointed.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

They got it right when they said 'it's not your father's Star Trek', but Abrams sure captured the essence of the original with that tongue-in-cheek almost camp that made this fan fall in love all over again!

Engaging story. Nice tie ins to the original, but you don't have to be a hard core Star Trek person who knows all the old stuff, to be able to enjoy this.
Plot moves along nicely, no dead spots. Lots of action. Great visuals. Ended as expected - the good guys win, and there is hope for another adventure to come.
Only downside - some of the scenes in the movie had a jerky feel to them - which I found it to be visually distracting.
Bottom line - Go see this. It's good. It's one of those movies I'd see more than once in the theater, and I'll be buying the DVD/BlueRay when that comes out.

I really enjoyed Star Trek. It was fun, entertaining and had lots of action. I liked the premise of being the first in the series. I thought the casting was excellent and the subtle Star Wars references were fun. I would enjoy more of these with the same cast. No matter how many back/forward in time movies I see, I can never wrap my brain around it and make sense of it, and so I just go with it and enjoy it. I would recommend it to my friends and younger people as well.

The Star Trek series has always possessed great appeal. I watched the original on TV, anxiously awaiting each new segment. I saw them all later when the navy provided them to ships at sea, and I’ve loyally followed all the Star Trek movies Hollywood has developed and the TV sequels cronicalling the maturing Federation. I enjoyed the new Star Trek very much. It maintains the same imaginative core of its predecessors with new twists, increased excitement and effects, humor and fresh characters. I continue to await the next episode in this new Star Trek experience. Go see it and enjoy the ride.

I think that Star Trek goes where no Star Trek movie to date has gone before. While the storyline differs slightly from the original series that we have come to love. The action seemed to have me on the edge of my seat and holding my breath.
If it is possible to imagine Captain James T. Kirk any more arrogant than Shatner played him, Chris Pine did an excellent job of capturing the Kirk we all love.
I think the bar has been raised yet again on special effects. The concept of being able to create black holes is mind boggling is this current theory, still science fiction or science fact????
Absolutely loved it.

It seems obvious that "Star Trek" is the ultimate prequel. Given the appearance of Capt. Pike, Jim Kirk's mentor from the original TV series, this movie tells the tale of James T. Kirk from birth to renegade Captain of the USS Enterprise. I foresee several motion pictures spawning from this release, and probably a TV series down the road. If this is what the producers have in mind, then they're off to a good start.

While the story itself had more holes than swiss chesse, JJ Abrams attempt to reboot the series was successful overall: there are enough nods to both the original characters and the first series of movies to keep Trekkers happy, while introducing new traits and relationships that will keep subsequent sequels fresh and interesting. Hopefully, this new generation will have its own "Wrath of Kahn" level follow-up in the future.

What works in this film is the attempt to bring out CERTAIN characteristics of the character, ableit modernized since the angry 90s.
Kirk has the smirk and the edge, Spock is very likable, Scotty is wonderful, and they NAILED Bones. Uhura was different, but a great character. On the other hand, Sulu and Checkov missed by a mile.
What really didn't work well for me was the idea that the Universal Societal Norms have gotten ruder, and not more restrained, as was the hope in the original move.
All in all, it was a wonderful expereince, and I'm sure to be back for seconds.
