Wait for the DVD

I knew from the trailers that this wasn't going to be an intellectual, high-brow comedy; and that's fine. A good ol' mindless comedy can still be funny. Problem is, this one wasn't.
Yeah, crudeness & profanity can be funny, but in this case they miss more often than they hit. The mechanical bird was just dumb and added nothing to the story in terms of humor or plot advancement. Some funny scenes to be sure. But on average I expected more.
Not at all a bad film, but you won't miss much if you wait for the video.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

I was a big Trekkie & I was disappointed by this film. Yes, the special FX were very cool, but the story itself was lacking.
There are action scenes for their own sake (irrelevant to the plot), like on that ice planet when Kirk is chased or when Scotty beams into the pipe.
Didn't like the Kirk-hates-Spock-hates-Kirk relationship. Just didn't work for me.
Didn't like that the whole plot was just a huge vendetta by one guy.
Star Trek TOS and TNG were renowned for entertaining while providing social/political commentary. This movie was just a plain ol' vanilla action flick. If that's all you're expecting, you'll enjoy it. But if you're expecting a revitalization of old Trek, you'll be disappointed.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
