First off ~ cast is perfect. Some of these characters are so well re-birthed that you will do double takes at certain facial gestures. Capt Kirk is amazing (as is young Spock, as is ...).
The set designs and costumes also pay homage to the television show and early films. While everything is much updated, you can still see the thread of connection between it all.
Early life character development is great. This adds depth to the current film, but also does a very nice job of setting up their universe for the franchise to keep making films with this cast.
The action cool.
The plot/premise is good.
This review does not include my list of negatives because of length limits imposed. This will therefore probably be my last review.

I am a 47 year Trek fan and this was the best Star Trek ever - I must admit it was better than all of the TV episodes and movies combined. We finally get the Spock we have been waiting for for almost 50 years - I hope this cast and crew last a long time into the future. Great job!!!

This movie was excellent and fascinating. It answered the questions of where the crew of the Enterprise in the 1960's show came from. How James T. Kirk was born was a twist, but it was explained. There were an interesting twist about Uhura and Spock, how Scottie came to the crew was comical and short, and a tie the Vulcans and Romulans have was there. All the actors chosen for all the roles fit them perfectly. The effects were amazing and nicely done. Overall, as a Trekkie, I was pleased.

This movie was magnificent!! I was very impressed and it exceeded my expectations!
I have been a Trekker since I was 10 years old. I am diehard fan of the original series. However, that being said, I also realize that the Star Trek Franchise had run out of steam and was dead. JJ Abrahams has come along and given the franchise a serious shot of adrenalin!! I was very happy with all the performances. The special effects are top notch and the action is fast and furious. And of course there is Leonard Nimoy who validates the whole movie. His scenes are touching and wonderful. And the ending, well it makes you want to stand up and shout - WELCOME BACK STAR TREK TO THE LAND OF THE LIVING!!

A lot more emotion than was expected. I am not sure if I agree with the choice for Spock, but the rest were okay. It will be interesting to see how things play out going forward in the Star Trek franchise. Good storyline, and a nice way to start over fresh. Majel and Gene would be proud. The movie was dedicated to them, and I thought that was very classy.

You do not need to be a trekie to love this movie. It is not like any of the other Star Trek movies that we've seen. It's a 1000 times better with a very sophisticated plot line, great directing and acting like we haven't seen for years. The special effects are so good and convincing that there was no suspension of belief. We highly recommend this movie and will purchase it the moment it comes out on DVD.

As a movie it was fantastic. As 'the beginning' of the Kirk area, it was pretty darn good. There were suprises, as well as a better understanding of how things took shape and how the crew got aboard the Enterprise. It also showed how the characters met and befriended each other and further developed some of the lesser characters on the original Star Trek that we knew and loved but didn't know to much about and probably never realized how special they all were.
The fight scenes, both the hand to hand combat and starship battles, were filled with a lot camera switching and though had some exciting aspects to them, were a bit difficult to follow.
Overall, you should really like it at worst case and may absolutely love it at best.

This movie did an excellent job of showing the origin of how the original characters made their way into star fleet academy. It connects this story to the main story line from the original tv series to the future episodes aka tng movies. Great special effects and the actors looked and acted like younger versions of themselves.

Captured all the flavor of the original series. They even used the theme music from the original series.
Casting was excellent. The new Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, and the rest, can be assured a nice long run with future movies. As someone who grew up with the original series, I never expected to be excited again about the possibility that it could live again. But I have to say, that Abrams and his crew have now made this possible. Nice job!!!

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Funny, edge of your seat action, great interaction between cast members. Although all of the character portrayals were great, there were a few standouts for me. Zachary Quinto (Sylar on Heroes) stunningly portrayed younger Spock. Chris Pine's Kirk was terrific as well. Simon Pegg was spot-on as Scotty. The storyline was inventive and entirely believable. It was an absolutely fantastic film, and you don't have to be a Trekkie to enjoy it and follow the story.

This movie represented not only great special effects, funny dialogue, great entertainment but also something very unexpected; I was emotionally affected. The plot dealing with friendship and family, gives the viewer a deeper view of what the characters go through on such a voyage. This movie is to be enjoyed by old fans but also new generations of movie goers.

I give a hearty thumbs up to everyone involved with this movie. It would have been so easy to do this movie without finding actors that were so reminiscent of their future selves, or otherwise messing with Star Trek. But this is a product that Gene Roddenberry would have been happy with! Great job.

The recent Star Trek movie failed to connect on the crew's inter-relationships in the way that the original series and Next Generation did so well. Certainly this movie was incredibly ambitious and needed to develop the "new" members of the Enterprise crew. There were delightful moments along the way such as the young Kirk barreling along the backroads of Iowa in an old Corvette and some scenes at Starfleet Academy, but too few in my opinion. The fight scenes ( both fisticuffs and starship ) were chaotic and difficult to follow.
Well done overall, but missed the mark on the character development

I would never claim to be a trekkie but did grow up watching StarTrek on the TV. I went as far as the Next Gen and the movies of course. I love Star Trek and will watch it every time. I also love JJ Abrams and was looking forward to his touch to my fav SciFi show. He did not disappoint! I love the way he opened new doors but still showed the essence of the Characters I loved. The swagger of James T. Kirk, the conflict in Spock, THE Tribble!!!! I can't wait for the bluray edition for the extras!!!!

Overall, this movie was great...and because I'm such a Star Trek fan I am going to see it again, this time in IMAX. Storyline not the greatest or true to the original series/movies...perhaps J.J. Abrams is trying to re-invent the franchise instead of re-ignite it? Character development and acting were great, and the movie can be enjoyed by anyone. Go see it, you'll have fun!
